Har Har Mahadev! Lord Shiva is one of the most highly revered God in the Hindu pantheon. Regarded as 'the transformer' in the trinity of the supreme divinity, he is also known as Adiyogi Shiva - the patron God of Yoga, meditation and arts! Shiva is a pan- Hindu deity and has many benevolent and fearsome depictions.

Let's take a tour through the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Jyotirlinga means 'The Radiant Sign of The Almighty Shiva', a devotional object representing the supreme god Shiva. Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva are considered very pious and are highly revered amongst the Hindu community.

The legend of Jyotirlinga

According to the Siva Mahapurana, once the Hindu trinity had an argument over supremacy of creation! To settle the debate, Supreme God Shiva pierced the three worlds and a huge infinite pillar of light appeared. The light was solidified into the form of a Shiva Linga and the worship of Linga is considered to be the prime worship of Lord Shiva; Worship of all other forms is considered secondary.
