Situated in the western parts of Mumbai, Jogeshwari Caves are dedicated to Lord Shiva and are some of the oldest caves in and around the region of Mumbai. These caves date back to the 6th century and were built by Hindu priests and Buddhist monks who meditated and performed ritual in these cave temples.
Jogeshwari Caves are also known to be amongst the largest Hindu cave temples in India. As per legends, it is also believed that these caves were formed by Pandavas who stayed here during their period of Vanvas.
From pillars to sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses, such as Shiva and Jogeshwari, and a grand hall to beautiful carvings on the wall, each and every corner of Jogeshwari Caves is worth a visit. Even though the caves are not in proper conditions today, they are still visited by several local travellers and tourists.

How To Reach Jogeshwari Caves

These caves are located at a distance of around 15 km from the centre of Mumbai. One can also catch a government or private bus to Jogeshwari.
