Since it used to be the seat of many dynasties and Nawabs centuries ago, you can still see the artistry and traditional influences of the bygone era. Not trying Tunde ke kabab at Lucknow is close to committing a sin!

Living in such a beautiful and proud city is an experience that cannot be put in words. However, any city folk living in the same city for too long craves for a change. Put an end to all your cravings for exploring and visit these places near Lucknow on the next long weekend you have!

Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary

Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary

Located just about 45 km from Lucknow, Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary is a beautiful getaway into the nature, where you can find birds of almost 250 different species. Birds migrate from various parts of the world to the Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary.

You might spot some of the many birds that dwell in the place, such as red-crested pochard, whistling teal, openbill stork, purple moorhen, etc. Apart from birds, it is also home to a deer park and has a beautiful lake where boating is allowed.

Ayodhya

The famous and ancient city of Ayodhya is well known for being the birthplace of Lord Rama and the place where the Hindu epic, Ramayana, took place. You can quickly pay a visit to Ayodhya since it is located 135 km from Lucknow, which is just 2-3 hours away.

Travel back in time by visiting places like Ramkot, Nageshwarnath Temple, Hanuman Garhi Fort and other temples galore. You can also visit the many mosques found in Faizabad, which is just about 7 km from Ayodhya.

Chitrakoot is a quaint town in Uttar Pradesh, that is home to several points of interest. Located 220 km from Lucknow, Chitrakoot is a perfect weekend destination. Mostly, the town is crowded during Hindu festivals like Deepavali, Ram Navami and Makar Sankranti.

This is because it is believed that the forests of Chitrakoot is the place where Ram, Sita and Lakshman from Ramayana, spent their 14 years of exile. Some of the places that you can visit in Chitrakoot are Ramghat, Bharat Milap Temple, Janaki Kund, Pampapur, etc.

This important tourist place is home to Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world, Jama Masjid, located right across Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. All these monuments stand as testimony to the magnificence of Mughal architecture.

Akbar's Tomb, Itimad-ud-Daulah and Ram Bagh are some of the other places to visit in Agra. Arrange for a heritage walk to go through these relics of the Mughal Empire.
