Best Time To Visit Ajmer And Pushkar

Being a religious centre, it is a year-round destination and is visited by devotees and tourists throughout the year. However, if you want to avoid the summer heat of Rajasthan, then the best time to visit Ajmer and Pushkar is from October until the end of March. During this period, the surroundings are green and the weather is pleasant.

How To Reach Ajmer And Pushkar

By Air: The nearest airport to Ajmer and Pushkar is located in Jaipur.

By Rail: Ajmer is well connected to all other major cities and towns by rail. Hence, you can catch a direct train from Jaipur to Ajmer. The distance between Ajmer and Pushkar is 15 km. Once you have reached Ajmer, you can take a direct cab or opt for the public transport to reach Pushkar. It will take you an approximate time of 2 h to reach Ajmer from Jaipur.

By Road: Ajmer has a commendable road connectivity, and therefore it is easily accessible by road.

Route 1: Jaipur - Kishangarh - Ajmer - Pushkar

Route 2: Jaipur - Roopangarh - Ajmer - Pushkar

As route 1 will take 40 min lesser in comparison to the other route, thereby, reaching your destination within 2 h 20 min, it is a preferable route. On your way, you can also take a break at Kishangarh and explore its beautiful surroundings.

Kishangarh

Kishangarh is located at a distance of about 34 km from Ajmer and 101 km from Jaipur and is known as the marble city of India. As per historical records, it was founded by a Rajput prince Kishan Singh in the early 17th century and since then, it has been a major town in the state.

From temples to forts and lakes to palaces, there are numerous places within its boundaries which will certainly interest you. These places include Gundolav Lake, Kishangarh Fort, Phool Mahal Palace and Khoda Ganesh Ji Temple.

Ajmer is located at a distance of about 135 km from Jaipur and is generally the base camp for visitors heading towards Pushkar. However, over a period of time, it has also become a significant tourist destination in the state.

Places To Visit In Ajmer

Taragarh Fort

Located atop Taragarh Hills and overlooking the core settlement of Ajmer, Taragarh Fort is one of the most popular historical places in the town. It was built by the King Ajaypal Chauhan and was the royal residence of his successors. Today, the fort is a magnificent spot to explore the history of Ajmer and is visited by thousands of tourists every year.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah

Undoubtedly, the most popular shrine, Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a religious site dedicated to Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, a Muslim preacher, scholar and philosopher, who lived in the 12th century. The shrine was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and it was the place Mughal King Akbar and his quee used to visit and offer prayers.

Anasagar Lake

If you would love to just relax and get lost in the serenity of Ajmer, then you must visit Anasagar Lake. Sitting on its banks and gazing at its beautiful waters is certainly a soothing experience. Therefore, a dip in the holy waters of Pushkar Lake is believed to wash away the sins of an individual.

Brahma Temple

Unarguably, the splendour of Pushkar, Brahma Temple was built in the 14th century and is one of the highly revered pilgrimage sites in the country amongst Hindus. It is one of the few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma, and hence it is a significant place. A trip to Ajmer and Pushkar is certainly incomplete without visiting Brahma Temple.

Even though Pushkar is known only for its holy lake and highly revered Brahma Temple, there is a lot to savour within its boundaries.
