Dwarka, located in Gujarat, means "gateway to heaven". It is one of the four paramount sacred Hindu pilgrim sites in India. This is said to be the kingdom of Lord Krishna and is deemed to be the first capital of Gujarat.

Jodhpur, on the other hand, is the largest metropolitan city in Rajasthan. Known popularly as Blue City and Sun City, it is hit by tourists from all parts of the world who are interested in knowing more about the Indian culture.

Jodhpur was found by Rao Jodha, a chief of the Rathore clan. The journey from Dwarka to Jodhpur, though a long and tiresome one, is an interesting route. There are many important and compelling places to sightsee on the way.

Best Time To Visit Jodhpur:
October to February is the peak season in Jodhpur. This season witnesses most tourists. The winters start from November and goes on till February. The temperature might drop as low as 10 degree Celsius. Therefore, it is advisable to carry woolen wear.

However, the summer season is sheer agony, as the temperature rises to 40 degrees Celsius, in addition to the humidity. Monsoon is the off-season in Jodhpur. You can score some amazing accommodation deals if you visit in the monsoon time. The humidity in the air is extremely high though.

How To Reach Jodhpur From Dwarka

By Air: Porbandar Airport is the nearest airport to Dwarka. However, there are no flights operating from Porbandar to Jodhpur. An alternate and best option would be to fly out of Ahmedabad. There are many flights that fly to Jodhpur with a stopover at Delhi or Mumbai.

By Train: The Mail Express 19252 runs from Dwarka to Jodhpur. The travel time is 20 h 5 min.

By Road:

By Road:

Route 1: Dwarka - Jamnagar - Palanpur - Sirohi - Pali - Jodhpur, via NH 27. This takes 13 h 30 min to complete. The distance is 868 km.

Route 2: Dwarka - Jamnagar - Palasava - Sanchore - Balotra - Jodhpur, via GJ SH 6. This is 840 km, shorter than the first route. However, due to some bad roads, it takes 14 h 15 min to complete. So, it is recommended to go with Route 1.

Route 1 would take a lesser time and it is a visual treat indeed for anyone opting for this route. When you are in Dwarka, the Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna is a must visit. It is a 2000-year-old shrine and the architecture will just blow your mind away.

Island Dwarka (Beyt) was cut off from mainland India many years ago. There are ferries available today that can take you to Beyt Dwarka. Do carry some peanuts to feed the seagulls. They flap up in the air to catch the nuts, providing much entertainment during the ferry ride.

It is a tradition to donate rice at this temple. Gupt Dwarka, the original Dwarka, is said to have submerged under the sea. Jamnagar is about 142 km from Dwarka. You will reach the place in about 2.5 hours.

Lakhota Palace and Museum is very well known in Jamnagar. Originally designed to be a fort, this museum now houses several artefacts from 9-19 centuries. Khijadia bird sanctuary in Jamnagar is a must visit for bird lovers and ornithologists. This sanctuary is a breeding ground for Great Crested Grebe. India's first Marine Sanctuary in Pirotan Island is close to Jamnagar.

Palanpur is about 416 km from Jamnagar. It is a 6 h 40 min drive. The Mirpur Jain Temple in Sirohi is a beautiful piece of architecture. It is one of the four Jain temples in Sirohi. Sirohi is about 122 km from Palanpur and will take you 2 hours to reach. Next, you can head towards Pali, which is 115 km from Sirohi. It can be covered in 1 h 45 min. Jawai Dam in Pali was built by Imaid Singh, the Maharaja of Jodhpur, which is a must visit here.

There's a crocodile sanctuary, a leopard sanctuary and a migratory birds sanctuary close by. Falna in Pali is known as the Umbrella City of India. Do pick up a few colourful umbrellas. Jodhpur is about 77 km from Pali and you will reach the place in an hour and half without detours. Jodhpur is a beautiful city with the old world charm and splashes of blue all over the city.
