Famous Waterfalls in Jharkhand

Jharkhand is filled with natural resources; forests as well as minerals. It has many mines and is one of the main mineral producer of India.

The state is also rich in green resources, hence the name the 'Land of Forests'. Jharkhand, sharing its border with Bihar, Chattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal, has many tourist attractions.

Among them, waterfalls in Jharkhand play a major role in tourism of the state. In fact, the capital city of Ranchi is known as the 'City of Waterfalls'.

Jharkhand tourism gives many options for travellers and also has a number of beautiful waterfalls.

Hundru Falls

Hundru Falls

Hundru Falls is formed by Subarnarekha river which leaps from a height of 322ft.

It is the highest and the most popular waterfalls in Jharkhand.

It is situated at a distance of 47 km from Ranchi and can be reached via Ranchi - Purulia road.

Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls

In Mundari language, Dassam means ' the song of pouring water'.

Dassam Falls, situated in Taimara village, is around 40 km from Ranchi.

River Kanchi creates this waterfall and people just love to visit this scenic beauty.

Tourists are not allowed to swim as the water is used for current generation. So, it is advisable not to get into the water of Dassam falls.

Reachable by road via NH 33 or Ranchi - Jhamshedpur Highway.

Jonha Falls

Jonha Falls

Jonha Falls or Gautamadhara Falls is an example of hanging valley falls.

People have to go down the steps to get an amazing view of the water falls.

It is situated at a distance of 70 km from the city of Ranchi. Tourists can also visit a Buddhist shrine nearby; attend a fair if you are there on Tuesdays or Saturdays.

It is reachable via NH33 or Ranchi - Purulia Road; also go by train and get down in Gautamadhara station.

Hirni Falls

Hirni Falls

Ramgarha river falls from a height of 121 ft to form Hirni Falls in Singhbhum district.

Situated in a forest area, Hirni falls gives a picturesque view.

The falls is almost 70 km from Ranchi and can be reached via NH 75.

Sita Falls

Sita Falls

Sita Falls is not very popular because of its distance and location.

There are efforts to improve this waterfalls in Jharkhand.It is better to go in groups as there won't be many tourists here.

The waterfalls is situated near Guridih; it is 45 km from Ranchi.

When this place is developed, Sita Falls is sure to become more famous than Jonha Falls.

Rajrappa Falls

Rajrappa Falls

Rajrappa is a waterfall and a Hindu pilgrimage site. Located in Ramgarh district, Rajrappa is well known for Chinnamastika temple.

Bhairavi and Damodar rivers together plunges from a height of 30 ft.

Boating is also available in the river near the temple.

It is almost 70 km from Ranchi, is accessible by road via NH 23 and Gola Charu Road.
