Mussoorie: The Land Of Picturesque Waterfalls

How would you define a waterfall? Soft rock is more quickly disintegrated than hard rock when water flows over different bands of rocks in the upper stages of a river and this leads to the formation of a wonderful cascade. Water discharges over a vertical drop and creates this natural phenomenon which exudes pure charisma.

Mussoorie is one of the most popular tourist destinations since the British rule and is embedded at the foothills of the Himalayan range. Heightened slopes consumed by lush green vegetation make the hill station all the more happening. You can spot exotic valleys, winding streets, gorgeous waterfalls and tall trees which make the place a classic holiday spot.

This flowing fall can be found around 15 km from Mussoorie on the Chakrata Road. It trickles down from a height of about 40 ft from a mountain. It is well-known to belong to the category of down-surging falls where it passes through different rocks and finally enters into the fields. The origin of the falls is pretty interesting. It is derived from "Camp-Tea" which was a place arranged by the Briitish for frivolous tea parties.

This star attraction is famous for bathing, fishing as well as swimming in which you can happily indulge. If such kind of activities is not your forte, you could simply spend a few peaceful hours listening to the soothing music of the waterfall or enjoy a merry picnic. It is also an ultimate photography destination for some mind-blowing clicks in the months of June to October, which is the best time to visit the falls.

This is the splendid abode of nature lovers which is 8 km away from Mussoorie and is in the vicinity of the Jharipani Village.You can view the exotic Shivalik range from these falls. The falls shall leave you speechless with wild blossoms, creepers, bushes and plants which sprawl on the uneven spread nearby. You shall be more enchanted by what lies on the other side of the fall.

It comprises the appealing Doon Valley and step farming fields and is a lovely place for some adventure and whiling away your time. In the scenic backdrop of this waterfall, stunning pictures can also be captured.

This splendid waterfall stretches only 7 km away from Mussoorie which flaunts a quintessential view and captivates the interest of every visitor. It roars down making a violent gushing noise but you shall be astounded with the serene and quiet surroundings. A quick tip to remember is to carry your own lunchboxes as there is not much provision of food around the falls. This fall situated near the Bhatta Village provides entertainment for kids via slopes, swings and a quaint children's park.

You can always travel to the Bhatta Falls by car or bus from either Mussoorie or Dehradun. It rolls down from an elevation of 30 ft and the major attraction forms a naturally encircled pool. Untouched by commercialization, Bhatta Falls shall definitely give you memories to cherish forever.

This fall lies in the lap of dense forests and is about 7 km away from the main city. But why 'mossy' falls? Vibrant green shades of moss develop in its vicinity granting the fall its name. The serenity of the environment shall keep you hooked to the falls for sure. This fall which lies in one corner of Mussoorie is an ideal place for nature photography. Pine forests in the background also add to the enthralling surroundings. It is said that these falls have a melodious tune to them which is definitely music to the ears.

This waterfall is one filled with sulphur which is about 14 km away from the city of Dehradun. It looks heavenly during the rainy season and trickles down at its best in several streams, in the month of May till August. It is a low-temperature waterfall. The word 'Sahastradhara' stands for 'thousand-fold' spring which lies near Robber's Cave in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It is also called 'Sulphur Springs' as the water exudes from limestone stalactites making it quite rich in sulphur.

This water is exceptionally well-known for its wonderous caves, terrace farming activities and, of course, the breath-taking waterfall. It refreshes the body, mind and soul and is surrounded by the Baldi river and caves on either side. Lime is known for its health benefits and Sahastradhara is known for its lime. So, let your body reap some rewards by splashing in the pool.

This fascinating cascade is enclosed in the lap of the secluded area of Doon. You shall catch a beautiful sight of the sun-kissed Himalayas while a short trek of about a kilometre shall show you the path to the waterfall located uphill. A steaming cup of coffee and delicious Maggie joints on the way shall make your journey to the top worthwhile! Mountainous terrains and thick lands decorate the vicinity of the fall and it is the royal abode of all the enthusiastic trekkers and a boon for all the adventure-seekers. The pristine fall is touched by wilderness, so it is advisable to return home before darkness strikes and preferably wear shoes and comfortable clothes to enjoy a lively trek.

The area is splashed with green vegetation, thus making it the home of several species of birds and colourful butterflies. The best part about the fall is that it provides water to the entire city via a joining waterline. The ideal visiting time is the months from June to October as the rainy season is dangerous with the level of water rising heavily. The waterfall is located about 13 km from the city centre of Dehradun and also the clock tower and can be readily accessed from anywhere. Just follow the Rajpur route and you shall be good to go!
