On a hill called Yadugiri sits the Cheluvanarayana decked in ornaments. Melkote Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple is one of the famous temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Karnataka. This temple flourished under the rule of Mysore Kingdom. Legend has it that the idol of the God was lost and was later found by Sri Ramanujacharya. In fact, it was because of him that Sri Vaishnava tradition spread in this region while he stayed here for 12 years.
