The Rann of Kutch is a vast area which forms a part of the Thar Desert in Kutch district. It is not a brownish sand desert like we usually know but it is a salty desert - a 'White Desert'. Most parts are in Gujarat while some regions lie in Pakistan.

In the monsoon season, it turns into a marshy area and dries up totally during summer. The vast salt marshes cover the landscape. A coastal line on one side and the desert towards the other side is indeed a unique ecosystem. In fact, the Rann of Kutch is one of the world's largest sand desert.
