When you ask a Bengalurean about where to head to over the weekend for an early morning bike ride, well, the unanimous answer would be Nandi Hills without second thoughts. Most of us would love to take in the cool early morning breeze that brushes our faces as we rev up to a beautiful destination located away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Well, Nandi Hills is not the only destination to head to for a drive from the garden city; there are plenty of beautiful locations that are waiting to be discovered which bikers can head to. We bring you some of the destinations that get your heart pumping as you race down the foggy road.

1. Mekedatu

Located at a distance of 100 km from the city, Mekedatu in translation means "goat's crossing". The place is home to massive granite which has been cut by the river Cauvery. This has resulted in breathtaking designs which date back thousands of years.

Once here one can opt to go on a coracle ride through the river. En route one can opt to make a stopover at the Chunchi Falls. The route takes you through the rural areas on the outskirts of the city cutting across untouched patches of lush greenery across the roads which certainly would boost your spirits.

Located 225 km from Bengaluru, Sakleshpur is one of the least explored hill stations in the state which is filled with coffee plantations, majestic mountains and unmatched scenic beauty, which together make it a place that one should not miss.

It would take one about 4 h to reach the place; the hill station finds its place en route Mangalore and has well-developed roads which make the drive a breeze. The best part about the place is that one would not only come across coffee plantations but also streams and waterfalls apart from the Bisle Ghat and Manjarabad Fort.

Located at a distance of 163 km, Yelagiri is a beautiful hill station which is located in Tamil Nadu. The place offers a perfect mixture of tranquillity, scenery and rich biodiversity. One can opt to go for a trek on the Swamimalai hillock which happens to be the highest point of the region.

To reach the place, one needs to head out towards Krishnagiri and then deviate towards Chennai. One would ride through about 14 hairpin bends which simply add to the thrill factor.

A drive of 4 to 5 h would take you to Kabini, which is one of the most loved destinations for wildlife enthusiasts and equally for anybody who loves road trips. An ideal road trip can be planned to Kabini from Bengaluru from November to January as the weather is at its best, which also helps in spotting various wildlife species, such as leopards, elephants and tigers, if luck is in your favour. Kabini is located at a distance of 215 km from Bengaluru.

From wide highways to narrow forest traversing roads this summarise of how the 173 odd km ride from Bengaluru would enthrall each and every individual. The green-hued hills remain beautiful throughout the year and for beautiful views of the surroundings, one can get to the temple located atop the hillock.

The driving can get tiring during the summer months, but these months also make it easier to stop wildlife at this biodiversity hotspot. Filled almost entirely with greenery, most riders prefer the route via Kanakapura, Kollegal, to reach the destination.

6. Marikanive Dam

Marikanive Dam is the oldest dam in the state which can be reached on the route to the town of Chitradurga via Tumakuru and other towns.

En route, relish a cup of hot filter coffee while you enjoy the sight of the mammoth windmills. The dam is located at a distance of 182 km from the city and is truly an architectural marvel.
