Madhya Pradesh 'the heart of India' is the 2nd largest state by area. Tourism in Madhya Pradesh is increasing in recent years. Consisting of World heritage sites like Khajuraho, Bhimbetka, etc. Madhya Pradesh has a number of tourist places.

There are 11 National Parks in Madhya Pradesh and a number of natural forest reserves. Consisting of so many forest reserves, Madhya Pradesh holds a lot of scope for wildlife tourism.

Have a look at some of the popular National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in Madhya Pradesh.

Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the dense forest areas in Madhya Pradesh. Located in Umaria district, it is spread over Vindhya Hills.

The name Bandhavgarh is derived from Bandhavgarh fort inside the park.

Today, it is mainly a tiger reserve and is known for Bengal tigers. This national park is also a home for white tigers and it has the highest density of tiger population in India.

The gaur/Indian bison, barking deer, sambar, nilgai and many species of birds, etc. are other wild animals in the reserve.

Jeep safari and elephant safaris are arranged and tourism is given importance in Bandhavgarh National Park.

Pench National Park

Pench National Park

Everyone is familiar with Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book', but no one knows that the jungle setting in the is inspired by Pench National Park.

Yes, the original forest setting written in the book is of Pench National Park.

It is one of the popular tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh. Bordering Seoni and Chhindwara districts, this wildlife santuary has a number of attractions.

It has a moist , dry decidious forest vegetation which shelters a number of animals. Gaur/Indian bison, Wild dog, leopard, Chousingha, Palm Civet, Hyena are some of the animals in Pench National Park.

A part of it is also a tiger reserve and some of them are buffer areas.
Best Season: November - February/ Mid-June to September

Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park adjoining Bori and Panchamarhi wildlife reserves, has unique highland ecosystem.

It is situated in Hoshangabad district and sprawled across Satpura mountain range.

Indian muntjac, four-horned antelope, chinkara, black buck, mouse deer, tiger, leopard, etc. are the animals found here.

Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park is mainly a protected area of Swamp deer (Barasingha).

Lush forests with sal and bamboo trees, meadows and wet lands makes it one of the best maintained wildlife sanctuaries in India.

This national parks in Madhya pradesh is also a tiger reserve and a home of many other wild animals.

Ratapani Tiger Reserve

Ratapani Tiger Reserve

Ratapani Tiger Reserve is located in Raisen district and is a wildlife sanctuary.

There are two water bodies inside the park, Ratapani Dam and Barna Reservoir which helps the ecosystem of the forest.

Teak and bamboo are the main trees covering this dry decidicous type of vegetation.

Bhimbetka rock shelters (UNESCO world heritage site) is situated inside the reserve. Tigers, Mangoose, fox, hares, rhesus monkeys, etc. are found in the forest.

Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary

Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary

Kuno / Palpur-Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary is a reintroduction site of Asiatic lions from Gir National park.

Since, there is a lack of space in Gir forests, they are relocating lions here.

Kuno Sanctuary has the capacity to house the 3 predators Tiger, Lion and Cheetah under one roof.

The thick vegetation and the climatic conditions in Kuno reserve is suitable for all three animals. Apart from these, it also has number of other animals .
