If you're new to the roads, this is almost more essential than the bike you're riding. Helmets can make all the difference when it comes to safety-but only if you wear them right.

Cycle should be comfortable

Make sure you are not on an ill-fitting ride that will keep you off the roads because of discomfort. Move your seat up so that your feet reach the pedals with only a very slight bend. This is the proper positioning on the bike.

Eye wear

Most of you might assume that cycling glasses is certainly not that important. But these glasses play an important part as much as your cycling jersey, tights or any other accessories.

Handgloves

When you fall, before your head hits the ground, your hands are likely to come in the way. Invest in a good pair of cycling gloves.

Carry a puncture kit (tyre levers, patches or new inner tube, and pump) always with you. Whether a short or long ride, punctures come without a warning and take you by surprise when you least expect them.

Hydration is equally important. So don't forget to hydrate too! Carry one bottle with water.
