Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Celebrate Janmashtami in Vrindavan

Vrindavan is a holy place for Hindus. It is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood. Vrindavan is a town in Mathura district; Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna.

There are number of temples dedicated to Krishna and Radha. So, Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in a grand way and it is one of the important festivals here.

Madan Mohan Temple

Madan Mohan Temple

Madan Mohan temple is the oldest temple in Vrindavan. It was built by Kapur Ram Das of Multan.
The original deity was discovered by Advaita Acharya, who then gave it to his disciple to worship.
During Aurangzeb's rule, the deity of Madan Mohan was sent to Jaipur for safe-keeping. Today, a replica of the idol is worshipped in this temple.

Sri Radha Raman Temple

Sri Radha Raman Temple

Sri Radha Raman temple is a popular temple in Vrindavan. The temple was built by Gopal Bhatta Goswami, a disciple of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

The legend says, one day Gopal Bhatta Goswami found a Krishna idol originated in his collection of Saligram Shilas. He, upon seeing this, installed the self-originated idol in this temple.

Sri Radha Raman temple is 500 years old and during Janmashtami many devotees visit this temple in Vrindavan.

Banke Bihari Temple

Banke Bihari Temple

The name 'Banke' means bent, 'bihari' means enjoyer; meaning Lord Krishna is in a Tri-dent pose. Hence, known as Banke Bihari.
The Banke Bihari temple was established by Swami Haridas, a guru of the famous singer Tansen. Originally the idol was worshipped in Nidhivana and later it was shifted to the new temple in 1862.
Jhulan Yatra (the swing festival of Krishna) and Janmashtami are the important festivals celebrated in this temple.

Krishna Balaram Mandir

Krishna Balaram Mandir

In Krishna Balaram temple, both Krishna and his brother Balaram are worshipped. The temple is one of the main ISKCON temples in India.
The temple was built in 1975 and is one of the famous temples in Vrindavan. Janmashtami is an important festival.

Govardhan Temple

Govardhan Temple

Govardhan temple is situated on Govardhan hill. According to the legend, Krishna lifted this hill to protect people from rain and thunder showered by Lord Indra.
Govardhan Hill in Vrindavan is a sacred place and many devotees visit this hill. Govardhana Puja is performed during Diwali festival.

Prem Mandir

Prem Mandir

Prem Mandir is a temple established by 5th Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj. This temple located in the outskirts of Vrindavan is a popular one.
Krishna Janmashtami or Krishna Jayanthi is a famous festival celebrated in this temple. Many devotees visit Prem Mandir during Janmashtami to witness Lord Krishna being worshipped in splendour.
