7 Brilliant One-Day Treks Near Delhi

One amongst the few benefits of living in the capital city of India is the many trekking options that Delhites are blessed with.

The city is kind of close to the majestic Himalayas and other beautiful peaks and valleys of the country, owing to which, the people living in the capital city tend to venture out more in the nearby mountain ranges.

Treks are most often taken by those folks who have the 9 to 5 work schedule, mainly because of the shortage of leaves at work.But wait, some of the treks near Delhi do not require you to take a week off, instead you can wrap them up over the weekend or on a long weekend and get back to work on Monday.

Here is a list of some of the most satisfying, thrilling and beautiful options which are wide open for trekking near Delhi.

Prashar Lake

The trek to Prashar Lake begins from a rocky stretch, from which you later divert to join the forest trail. During winter one would come across patches of ice, which would make the walk a bit tricky. The trek is a little strenuous but is also equally beautiful.

To reach here, take an overnight bus to Mandi and from there hop into a local bus which would take you to Baggi. The trek begins from Baggi and would take 4-6 h to complete depending upon your speed.

Kuppar Peak

The trail to Kuppar Bugyal begins from Giri Ganga; to reach Giri Ganga one can trek from Kharapthar or drive directly from Shimla.

Keep on the road until you come across the thick forest trail at Giri Ganga and then make your way to the summit of the Kuppar Peak.

One can board an overnight bus to Shimla and from there travel in a local bus to Khara Pathar or Giri Ganga. The route from Giri Ganga would take you around 4-5 h to complete.

Gurson Bugyal

Gurson Bugyal

The trek to the Gurson Bugyal meadow is a fairly simple one and is around 3 km away from Auli. This popular trail is also known as Lord Curzon's Trail since it was discovered by Lord Curzon who lived here during the colonial period.

To reach here, one can board a bus to Rishikesh and once there, take another to Joshimath, from where Auli is about an hour's drive. The trek begins from Auli and can be completed in 4-5 h.

Beginning from the Solang Valley is the trek to Beas Kund. The trail is fascinating, beautiful and offers a lovely mixture of views throughout with a number of tricky patches and river crossings on the path.

The first stopover is at Dhundi which is about 8 km away from the Solang Valley; from there you would reach Bakar Thach, after which Beas Kund is about 3 km away. The trek takes about 8-9 h to complete.

To reach here one can board an overnight bus to Manali and another one from there to Solang Valley.

Triund

Triund

The trek to Triund begins from Dharamkot with the first stop at the Gallu Devi Temple. Once you cross the Magic View Cafe, stay put on the well marked forest trail and this would take you all the way up to the summit in a few hours. The trail indeed is one of the most beautiful ones and offers you a panoramic view of the Kangra Valley.

To reach the base camp of Dharamkot, one needs to reach Dharamshala and from there to Mcleod Ganj. The trek takes about to 4-5 h to complete.

The trek to Benog Tibba begins from either the Clouds End Resort or the Library. The Benong Mountain Quail Sanctuary is the first stop, after which you need to follow the well marked forest path which would take you to the summit in a few hours.

The trek is not a very difficult one; once at the summit be prepared to have a panoramic view of the Happy Valley.

Opt for a mode of transportation which would take you to Mussoorie; the resort is around 3 km away from the main town. The trek takes around 6-7 h to complete.

Khar Myundari

Khar Myundari

The trek to Khar Myundari begins from Setan Village. The trail takes you through a thick forest of deodar and pine trees which would be a great companion as you follow the stream which takes you to a meadow. The trek takes about 3-4 h and is not a very painful one.

Board a bus to Manali, and from there one can hop on to a local bus or taxi which would take you to Setan which is about an hour from Manali.
