Best Places to Visit in Telangana

Telangana belonged to the Hyderabad State, which was a merged area of Medak and Warangal Divisions during the rule of the Nizams. It later went on to become a part of the state of Andhra Pradesh. On the 2nd of June, 2014, Telangana became a seperate state in itself and is the 29th state of India. Telangana shares it's boundaries with Maharashtra on the north and north-west, Chattisgarh on the north-east, Karnataka on the west, and Odisha on the east.

It is one of the popular tourist places in the South with the Charminar in Hyderabad, the Papi Hills and the Kuntala Waterfalls being the popular attractions here. here are many temples in the state, some of which being the Bhadrachalam Temple, Thousand Pillar Temple and Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swami Temple. Here is a look into the best places to visit in the state of Telangana.

Adilabad

Adilabad

Adilabad derives its name from the erstwhile ruler of Bijapur, Mohammed Adil Shah. Historically, Adilabad has been home to a variety of cultures. It has been ruled by North Indian dynasties like the Mughals and the Mauryas and South Indian dynasties like the Satavahanas and the Chalukyas. It is here that the Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati has her abode Surrounded by serene mountains and thick lush green forests, Adilabad is sanctified by the penance and meditation of sages like Ved Vyas. The brilliance of nature is at its best with the Godavari Flowing majestically over the prehistoric topography of the Deccan plateau giving rise to beautiful waterfalls and wild life preserves.

Hyderabad

Hyderabad was the capital and the most populous city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, is now a part of Telangana. The city is home to the world's largest film studio, the Ramoji Film City as well as the Telugu Film Industry, the second-largest in India, known popularly as Tollywood. The original city of Hyderabad was founded on the banks of river Musi. Now known as the historic Old City, home to the Charminar and Mecca Masjid, it lies on the southern bank of the river.

Khammam

Khammam

The name of the town Khammam is derived from the name of a local hill called Stambhadri which has an ancient temple of Narasimha Swamy on its top. The town is located on the banks of a river called Munneru which is a tributary of the Krishna River. It has many tourist spots like, Khammam Fort, Papi Hills, Lakaram Lake and more.

Medak, a historic town, was originally called Siddapuram. Medak has a citadel dating back to the Kakatiyas which is strategically built on a hillock. The Medak fort stands as an epitome of architectural excellence of the Kakatiya dynasty. It is adorned by many temples depicting fine architectural splendours in the Zarasangam, Edupailu, Nachagiri temples to name a few. The Medak church, the single largest diocese in Asia and second largest in the world after the Vatican, is a priceless heritage.

Nalgonda

Nalgonda

Nalgonda is a town and a municipality in Nalgonda district in the Indian state of Telangana. Its name is derived from two Telugu words Nalla (black) and Konda (hills). Two hills in the town, from which the name Nalgonda was made, have got enormous potential to trekking adventures and also spiritually as a Dargah of Lateef Saheb is located over the hill. The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is famous dam in south india with 26 gates and has a Hydroelectric plant is also located here at a distance of 80 km.

Nizamabad

Nizamabad

Nizambad is a city and a municipal corporation in Nizamabad District in the state of Telangana. Nizamabad was formerly known as Induru and Indrapuri. It was ruled by the king Indra Vallabha Panthya Varsha Indra Som, of the Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Lake Asok Sagar, a popular attraction here, has a neatly laid out garden, and a 18 ft statue of Goddess Saraswati in the middle of the lake. The famous Basar Saraswati Temple is located 35 km from here. Basar temple is the only other Saraswati Temple in south India.

Warangal

Warangal

Warangal or Orugallu is a city and a municipal corporation in Warangal district in the Indian state of Telangana. During the reign of the Kakatiyas, Telugu culture and literature attained great heights. Some of the finest forms of architecture in the whole of South India can be seen in the ruins of the once glorious empire. Only the beauty of the surrounding lakes matches its historic past.

Telangana is popular for two types of cuisines - the Telugu cuisine and the Hyderabadi cuisine. While the Telugu cuisine comprises of the spicy dishes of South Indian, the Hyderabadi cuisine is a blend of Telugu and other dishes such as Arab, Turkish and Mughlai. Hyderabadi dum biriyani is one of the delicacies the state is famous for and is a must try for all who come here.
