We are in the last month of the year, and the most festive one too! With a line up of festivities such as Christmas and New Year, people are seen preparing for the weeks to come. Happy sights and announcements fill every empty space; shopping and gifting has started too. Here is just one more thing to ensure you have the most fun-filled Christmas; take a look at the destinations in India that come alive for the festival, head here this December 25th and come back with happy, colourful memories!
Some of these destinations in India have high Christian populations and are also tourist destinations, so all stops are pulled at making the even a grand one. Imagine fairy-tale lights, peppy music, happy dancing, delicious food and a range of other activities to brighten your Christmas Eve.
Goa
It is nothing short of spectacular to witness the energy and vibe of Goa during Christmas. The beach-front becomes a magical place as shacks bring out the best lighting arrangements, complete with candle light dinners. Acrobatics, including rope-walks and fire-based performances can be seen taking place. Floating lamps are lit and fill the night sky with hope and joy. Loud beats set the tone for the night on the beaches, while people can be seen happily dancing. The other side of Goa with is quaint old churches see more traditional festivities, chorus songs and mass prayers followed by delicious feasts! There is simply no better place to spend Christmas than the lovely Goa.

Shimla
Shimla, a snow-covered winter paradise! There is indeed something very special about spending Christmas in a destination with snow all around you. Make a snowman, decorate a Christmas tree and gift friends and family at this wonderful destination. Take an unforgettable walk around the Mall Road for festive sights, visit the beautifully decorated Christ Church and enjoy the warm vibe all around Shimla.

Pondicherry
The French town of India, Pondicherry is a great place to travel to in December. Firstly, the season is ideal for the otherwise humid destination! Secondly, the lovely churches and French charm is sure to carve out the most unique Christmas Eve experience for you. The bonus? The lovely views of the sea from the promenade of course, topped off by a hearty meal! A few churches you must visit include; the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the Our Lady Of Assumption Church, the St.Antony Church, The Eglise de Notre Dame des Anges, etc to name a few. A tip, go have your Christmas Dinner at the La Maison Rose, enjoy traditional French cuisine, a magical ambiance and excellent service.

Shillong
Among the most picturesque locales in the country, Shillong is a great place to spend Christmas. Head to this vibrant destination in North East India to experience the 'Khasi-Garo Christmas'. The streets abound with excitement and energy, especially places such as the Police Bazaar. People here love to shop and it is evident for travellers to see, as crowds carry packets of various products from clothing to food. Shillong has strong western influences in terms of its language and celebrations but with a steady underlying foundation of cultural moorings. You can see people in their traditional clothing light up the scene at the many churches of the city.

Cochin
Kochi or Cochin in Kerala is one of the best places to spend Christmas in India. The streets come alive with festival lights and sights! The many hotels around the city organise parties and dinner options. Travel to Fort Kochi for many fun activities. The other reason why this is the ideal destination for travel during December, are the events such as the Cochin Carnival and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale; festivals that take place in the second half of December. Enjoy art, good food and great company at Cochin.
