The Best Museums in Delhi

Delhi, the capital city of India, needs no mentions in terms of its power to attract tourists from all over the world. Being a hub of tourist spots and a hotspot of activities, Delhi is one of the best among the favourite spots of tourists who flock in to India every year.

National Rail Museum

Built more than two decades back, the National Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri of Delhi is a unique attraction of the city and has a rich collection that boasts of the rail heritage of India. Spread over 10 acres of land, the museum has a huge collection of static and working rail models of engines, coaches and other rail equipment right from the yesteryears to the current metro railway system.

Sankar's International Dolls Museum

One of the famous museums in Delhi, the Sankar's International Dolls Museum has a huge collection of different types of dolls from various parts of the world. Opened by a cartoonist, Sankar Pillai, the museum is a must-see attraction for children. Apart from the dolls from outside India like the Europe, UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, Middle East and Africa, it also has a huge collection of costume dolls from India that depict the art forms and culture of the country.

Indira Gandhi Memorial and Museum

This museum stands at the site where Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, was assassinated. The museum has some belongings of Indira Gandhi like the saree she had worn while she was shot dead, the sandals she wore that day and so on. It is an attraction not to be missed.

Crafts Museum

Located at Pragati Maidan in Delhi, the Crafts Museum is a world of handicrafts items like terracotta horses, paintings, mud huts, wooden carvings, metal ware among the rest. This place is a treasure for handicraft enthusiasts as they can find some rare pieces of handicrafts to buy at the museum.

Tibet House Museum

The Tibet House Museum depicts the Tibetan culture and art. It has a collection of Tibetan musical instruments, prayer objects, currency notes, etc, that portrays the rich culture of Tibet. The museum is located at the Lodhi road in Delhi. It also has a library and an emporium.

Gandhi Smriti

Gandhi Smriti is the place where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 years of his life and was assassinated in the year 1948. The structure was known as Birla House as it was the residence of the Birla family. The museum here has several items that are associated with Mahatma Gandhi that includes one of his walking sticks, a shawl, one of the bullets that were shot at Gandhiji, etc.

Indian Air Force Museum

The Indian Air Force Museum is located at the Palam Air Force station in Delhi. It has a collection of uniforms, historic photographs, personal weapons and the like related to the Indian Air Force since its inception.
