We would rather roll over the white sand and play in the bluish-green beaches in Andaman than try explore other places, Isn't it? Still, the nature is made out of unique elements which is worth a visit. Hence, a day's trip to Baratang Island in Andaman is interesting and fun!

You can either opt for a bus ride from the capital city of Port Blair to Baratang Island or take a ferry ride from halfway to reach this island. No matter whichever means of transport you choose, the trip will definitely be interesting.

Reaching Baratang itself is an adventure as you have to pass through Jarawa Forest Reserve. There are a lot of restrictions while passing the forest reserve as it is a home to the ancient Jarawa Tribe.

No tourists are allowed to interact or click photos of Jarawa Tribe. Earlier, there have been instances where tourists were attacked by the tribe. However, now they have maintained a distance from tourists. You will catch a glimpse of or two Jarawa tribals if you are lucky enough! No buses or vehicles stop while passing the reserve. This journey will take you through the rain forests which is definitely an exciting part of the journey.

Attractions in Baratang Island

Baratang Island is known for the Mangrove forests, a limestone cave, mud volcano and a few unexplored beaches like Merk Bay Beach, Baludera beach, etc.

Limestone Caves

Limestone Caves is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Baratang Island. The journey to Limestone caves is itself exciting as you have to go in boats. The journey through the ferries pass through the mangroves. Lime stone caves have stalagmite and stalactite formations that are amazing to explore.

Mud Volcano

Mud Volcano is one-of-its-kind active volcano in India. It is situated uphill around 4km from Baratang Jetty.

Parrot Island

Parrot Island is yet another tourist place which is known for beautiful sunset views in Baratang. After a long day's trip, it is most amazing to see the sun drowning into the sea.

How To Reach Baratang Island

Baratang Island is around 160km from Port Blair. It is well-connected by road and water transport.

By Bus: It takes around 3hours to reach by bus from Port Blair to Baratang. Several government run buses, private cabs and tourist buses take the tourists to this island.

Another way is to go by ferry from Nilambur Jetty to Baratang Jetty.

Overall, a day in Baratang Island is rejuvenating as you can experience the dense jungles and the place of the ancient Jarawa Tribe.
