Adhishakthyatmaka Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple is one of the popular devi temples in Karnataka. This shrine is located in the village of Horanadu at the border of Chikmagaluru. Horanadu along with Sringeri is one of the most frequented places here.
Legend of Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple
It is said that Sage Agasthya installed the original idol of Annapoorneshwari at this village. Before this region was covered in forest and it was not accessible to public. For many years this was a small shrine. Later, even Adi Shakaracharya is said to have visited the shrine and offered his prayers.

A few decades ago, the Darmadhikaris of the kshetra decided to renovate the age-old temple and that is when the place started to become well-known.

Now this shrine is a well-developed shrine with all the facilities. The temple complex is big and the deity of Annapoorneshwari can be seen in the main sanctum. Interestingly, the visitors who do not get accommodation can actually stay within the temple. However, prior arrangements have to be made. Devotees are also allowed to sleep in the vast area outside the sanctum. So, don't think it is weird to see people sleeping in this part of the temple.
Prasadam (food)
Ofcourse, Annapoorneshwari Temple offers prasadam (food) three times a day. Devotees can have breakfast, lunch and dinner in bhojana shala (dinning hall) within the temple. Tasty prasadam is free and every visitor can have this food.
Around Annapoorneshwari Temple Complex
There is a small Kalyani (Temple pond) outside the temple. The streets around the temple are filled with dried fruit shops, flowers and coconut shops, etc. Visitors can actually buy some spices, dried fruits and chocolates here.

Accommodation
There are many hotels are located around the temple but you have to book it well before as it will be crowded most of the time. You can reach Horanadu at night and stay in one of the hotels around the temple. We can go for an early morning darshan at the temple.
How To Reach Horanadu
The distance between Sringeri and Horanadu is around 42km. Since Horanadu is located amidst the Western Ghats, we have to pass through the ghat section.
