The Ananta Vasudeva Temple is one of the popular temples in Bhubaneshwar. It is a Vaishnavite temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and his two siblings. Yes, the main shrine has the idols of Lord Krishna along with his brother Balarama and Subhadra.

History of Ananta Vasudeva Temple

The current temple of Ananta Vasudeva Temple is said to be constructed by the Queen Chandrika during 13th century. It was the time of the King Bhanudeva when this shrine was built. Later, the temple is said to have revamped during the rule of Marathas in 17th century.

Architecture of Ananta Vasudeva Temple

The Ananta Vasudeva Temple has the temple style of Eastern Ganga Dynasty. It has longitudinal Shikharas (Gopuras) with beautiful carvings. The interiors are also full of exotic sculptures and mythological figures. The main garbhagriha (sanctum) has the granite idols of Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra.

Bindu Sagar Lake and the Lingaraja Temple are the two prominent attractions near Ananta Vasudeva Temple.

Bindu Sagar Lake is one of the biggest water bodies in Bhubaneshwar. According to the legend, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati came here to destroy the demons who were creating a havoc. While on this journey, Goddess Parvati felt thirsty and Shiva created a spring out of his trishul (trident).

This spring is believed to be the source of Bindu Sagar Lake. Hence, this lake is closely associated with rituals of Lingaraja Temple located on the banks. In fact, Ananta Vasudeva Temple is also situated on the Eastern Bank of Bindu Sagar Lake. One can enjoy a beautiful view of the lake from the temple premises.

Lingaraja Temple

Lingaraja Temple is one of the famous Shiva temples in Bhubaneshwar. This Kalinga Architecture houses Lord Shiva who is worshipped as Lingaraja. Located on the banks of Bindu Sagar Lake, the Lingaraja Temple is one of the landmark destinations in Bhubaneshwar.

Therefore, visitors can cover both Ananta Vasudeva Temple and Lingaraja Temple together. In fact, they both look a little similar in architecture. However, the rustic charm and views of the lake makes the shrine even more interesting to visit.
