While on a trip to the state of Karnataka, a traveller cannot miss out on the sculptural delight the state has to offer. With numerous spots in the state that can take the tourists back in time with their rich history and cultural heritage, Karnataka has proven to be a popular tourist destination.
Places such as Hampi, Somnathpur, Belur, Badami etc. represent the amazing architectural styles adopted by great dynasties such as the Hoysalas, Chalukyas and many more. These spots are thronged by visitors from all around the globe to get a taste of the rich glory of Karnataka. Three major architectural attractions of Karnataka are Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola all of which are at a close proximity to Hassan district.
Tourists visiting Karnataka can effortlessly cover the three places - Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola in just one day, if planned right, as the places are not too far away from each other. Belur
The day tour can start off with Belur which is located at a distance of 38 km from Hassan District. Belur was an ancient capital of the Hoysala Dynasty.
The Hoysala Temple complex stands in all its glory at Belur, the main attraction being the Chennakeshava Temple. The doorways, ceilings, outer and inner walls of the temple are all engraved with beautiful stone sculptures and carvings. There are smaller temples dedicated to various deities, in addition to 48 carved pillar that prove to be a wonderful sight to the visitors.
Halebid
After Belur, the visitors can head to Halebid which is just 16 km away from Belur and it also bears exceptional architecture.
Halebid too was one of the capitals of the Hoysala empire. The two shrines there, Hoysaleswara and Shantaleshwara are dedicated to to the builder, King Vishnuvardhana and his wife respectively. The shrine also has smaller temples, along with a lake in the front. The walls of the temples are adorned with impressive sculptures and carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and dancing maidens.
Situated at a distance of 89 km from Belur, Sravanabelagola can be next on the list. This city is renowned for the gigantic stone statue of Lord Bahubali, which is placed on top of the Vindhyagiri Hill. This statute is 57 feet in height and one has to climb the hill to reach the top.
There is also another hill here known as the Chandragiri which offers a picturesque view of nature to the visitors. There also many ancient scripts found at this site.
Travelling to all these three places in one day will prove to be a worthwhile day-trip, as it takes the tourists along a walk down the rich history of Karnataka.
