Located on the banks of the river Kali, a small hamlet named Dandeli is a fascinating mix of wildlife, lush green forests, adventure sports and immense beauty. This mesmerising town is a habitat for wildlife and some exotic birds.

Since it is located just 125 km from Goa, Dandeli can conveniently be termed as 'Extended Goa'. You can bask in the glory of serenity by jungle camping in comfortable tents, taking a stroll into evergreen deciduous forests and capture nature's spellbound formations in its raw form in your cameras.

The wild gushy waters which makes it thrilling for lovers of adventure, should definitely not miss white water river rafting. If the word 'adventure' brings in adrenaline rush within you, then you have a plethora of activities to experience like kayaking, coracle riding, trekking, rope climbing and river crossing.

Winter season is the perfect season to visit Dandeli. However, the months between October to February is ideal. Summers in Dandeli are moderate and hence one can visit here during this season also. Monsoons are least advisable for a trip.

By Road
The total driving distance from Bengaluru to Dandeli is approximately 460 km via Route 1 and 550 km via Route 2. There are two routes that can be taken:

Route 1: Bengaluru - Shimoga Road - Tumkur Main Road in Rajaji Nagar - Kalghatgi - Haliyal Kalaghatagi Road via NH 48.

Route 2: Bengaluru - Hyderabad Highway - Srinagar Kanyakumari Highway via NH 48.

Route 1 is recommended. It will help you reach your destination in 7.5 hours whereas route 2 takes longer, 9.5 hours.

The most popular of all the modes of transport is the one by road. Choose the correct route so that you don't miss out on nature's marvel! If long distance driving doesn't tire you out, then its preferable to hop on the driving seat yourself with alternate turns by people who are accompanying you. You can hire a car if you do not wish to take your car.

It is recommended to start early from Bangalore so that you can kick off the distance at a higher speed. Take the route via Tumkur to cover the distance in less time. Enjoy the traditional Bangalorian breakfast en route.

About 70 km from Bengaluru, you will reach Tumakuru district. The journey is undoubtedly full of temples. You can take some time out to visit a renowned educational institute cum temple named Siddhaganga. Apart from being an educational centre, this place has been feeding its pilgrims and students delicious food, free of cost!

Approximately 50 km from Tumakuru, you will arrive at Sira. If you belong to a place which is full of hustle and bustle, then Sira Lake will sure help you gain some quietude. Vallapuram Mandir and Sri Gurugundabrahmeshwara demand your visit.

Next stop, located about 143 km from Sira, Devangere is known as the textile capital of South India. It will offer you number of options in industries, factories and tourist places. Thus, you can plan your stay here for a day or two, if you have ample time in your pocket or in order to relax as a result of driving this far! Kunduvada Kere, Teertha Rameswara, Sri Anjaneya Swami temple, Eshwara temple are few attractions out here!

About 156 km from Devangere, Yellapur witnesses one of the most beautiful sunsets you would ever come across. A halt here is a must to feel the exquisite stretch of hills and valleys. Sathodi falls, Magod falls, Chandramouleshwara temple, Nrupatunga hill are some outstanding attractions here!

About 61 km from Kalghatgi, your destination arrives! Time to explore the escapades hidden in Dandeli.

By Air: You can also opt for air travel from Bengaluru International Airport to Hubli (5 flights per week). The travel time is approximately 1.5 hours.

By Rail: Rani Chennamma Express runs daily from Bengaluru Junction. You can get down at the Belgaum Junction which is connected to major towns and cities. Dandeli is 85 km from here. There are trains running from Bengaluru to Alnavar Junction as well. Dandeli is 16 km from Alnavar Junction.

By Bus: There is direct bus between Bangalore and Dandeli. It will cost you about Rs 600/-.
