Amazing Almora: Places to Visit

Almora, perched on a horse saddle shaped ridge, is a popular hill station of the Kumaon region. Travellers can enjoy the panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks of the mighty Himalayas from the hills of Almora. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful views of sunrise and sunset from the Bright End Corner. Simtola and Martola are ideal for picnickers. The Deer Park is also popular as it houses animals like deer, leopard, and the Himalayan black bears. Some other popular tourist attractions of the place include Gobind Ballabh Pant Public Museum and the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. Trekking and mountain biking are popular activities among visitors here.

How to Reach

The nearest railway station is at Kathgodam which is connected to all the major cities. From here one can avail shared taxis to reach Almora. The easiest way to reach here is by plane with it being well connected to Delhi. One can trave here by bus as well.

Binsar

Binsar is a popular tourist place located in the district of Almora. It gets its name from the Hindu God Shiva who is also known as Binsar Deo. It is situated at the backdrop of the mighty Himalayan Ranges and serves as a popular hill station of Almora. It also offers a panoramic view of the mighty Himalayan peaks, namely Kedarnath, Shivling, Trishul, and Nanda Devi.

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a major tourist attraction here at Almora. It is a natural habitat for animals like Leopard, Chital, Musk Deer, Jungle Cat, Black Bear, Fox, Langur, Monkey, Porcupine and more. The sanctuary was declared as an Important Bird Area by the Bird Life International and has more than 200 species of birds. It is perfect places for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Bright End Corner is a noted tourist spot here as it offers remarkable views of the sunrise and the sunset behind the snow-capped peaks. Chitai Temple

Chitai Temple

Chitai Temple is a popular holy site and is dedicated to the legendary and mythological God of the Kumoan region known as Golu Devta, an incarnation of the Hindu Lord Shiva. The temple is located on a hilltop and is surrounded by dark forests of chir pines and mimosa clumps.

Nanda Devi

Nanda Devi

Nanda Devi is a renowned religious site located in Almora. It holds a great religious importance and is regarded as one of the sacred sites of the Kumaoni region.It is the house of the Nanda Devi Temple. This shrine is adorned with a crown known as stone amalaka, surrounded by a wooden roof. The walls of the shrine are designed with attractive stone art.
