Monsoon travel has its own charm. Catching the scenic, rain-washed views of mountains, villages and landscape is an unexplainable bliss only a monsoon traveller knows. To add to that, if you are an adventurer, monsoon travel could give you some seriously adventurous and out-of-the-world experiences.

Indus River, Ladakh
The stark beauty of Ladakh allures travellers and adventurers from across the world. The azure Indus River, originating in the glaciers of Tibet, flows through the breathtaking landscape of Ladakh. Coupled with the barren landscape, mammoth rocky mountains, deep gorges of Ladakh, the thrill of rafting on the white waters of the untamed Indus River is an unparalleled experience.
One of the longest rivers in Asia, the water levels of Indus are high during the months of June through September. The white water rafting mostly happens from July to September. The rapids here vary from grade I to even grade V at some places. Rafting in Ladakh is an experience of a lifetime, that one can be sure of.

Zanskar River, Zanskar
Considered as one of the challenging terrains, the Zanskar River Valley in Ladakh offers the most exhilarating experience of white water rafting here. The rafting expedition begins from the deep and remote regions of the Zanskar Valley, on the Doda River. It takes you on an incredible journey through some of the most scenic landscapes, gorgeous ravines and stunning cliffs of the stunning Zanskar Valley, merges with the strikingly coloured Zanskar River, and finally ending at the Indus, near Alchi Monastery.
Multiday rafting expeditions are also organized. The confluence of Indus and Zanskar, two distinctly coloured rivers, at Nimu is a breathtaking sight that mustn't be missed. Not only is rafting here a beautiful experience, the Rapids (ranging from grade III to grade V) and currents of the water here makes the experience most adventurous and out of the world. July to August in the best time to for the sport.

Spiti River, Spiti Valley
The mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh is famous for its charming beauty. Spiti, meaning ‘middle land' in Himachal is the cold desert valley. The mountain valley, located high up in the Himalayas is an enchanting beauty. Apart from being famous for the high altitude Chandratal Lake, Spiti is also a popular destination for white water rafting.
One can opt for the multi-day rafting expedition, that is for about roughly a week. The journey will take you through majestic views of mountains, valleys, and quaint villages nestled in the Spiti Valley. Being a cold desert valley, the region experiences less rainfall, and therefore, July through August months are considered as the best time for rafting expeditions.

Kundalika River, Kolad
The tiny picturesque Kolad village is located in the Raigad district of Maharasthra. With a horde of fun and leisure activities, it is a popular weekend getaway for the Mumbai and Pune crowd. The most famous being the white water rafting on Kundalika River that flows into the Kolad region.
The Kundalika River is known to be one of the fastest flowing rivers, the rapids here range from Grade II to Grade III. During the monsoon, the rafting will be an especially enthralling experience, as the journey will take you through the lush greenery of rain-soaked landscape. Kolad is also the only river rafting spot that is open all round the year.

Mhadei River, Goa
The word ‘Goa' invariably fills the mind with images of beach, summer sun, sandy toes, music and parties. Well, you can add the word adventure to the list, too. For most, Goa is one place, that can be visited any number of times, and during any time of the year. But Goa is especially beautiful in the monsoons and is a must-visit if you a monsoon traveller.
Popular for its water sports and adventure sports, Goa also offers a river rafting option. The Mhadei River, popularly known as Mandovi River, is where the rafting expedition happens. During monsoon, cascading down the swollen river on the inflatable rafts takes the sport to a whole new level of adventure and thrill. Monsoon rafting at Mhadei happens between July and September.
