No travel to India is incomplete without a visit to Taj Mahal that has attracted travellers from across the globe for decades together. Taj Mahal is one of the greatest symbols of love, among the best attractions in India, and also among the wonders of the world!
Being one of the treasures of India, the iconic Taj Mahal is located at Agra in Uttar Pradesh. This stunning structure was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in loving memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The mausoleum is believed to have been built after the death wish of Mumtaz Mahal to have a tomb built for her - "a tomb such as the world had never seen before".

Architecture of Taj Mahal
The construction of Taj Mahal took around 20, 000 workers and was built in 22 years (1631-1653). The chief architect of the structure was a Persian architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, and the monument was built using Persian and early Mughal style of architecture.
Though most of the Mughal monuments before Taj Mahal were built in red sandstone, Shah Jahan encouraged the use of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones. The other elements used for constructing Taj Mahal include red sandstone from Fatehpur Sikri, Jasper from Punjab, Turquoise from Tibet, Crystal and Jade from China and diamonds from Panna.

The symmetrical structure of Taj Mahal is the central focus of the whole complex. The calligraphy of the monument was done by Amanat Khan Shirazi. His name is mentioned at the end of an inscription on one of the gates of Taj Mahal.
The verses on the tombstone were designed by poet Ghiyasuddin. The monument is one of the finest Mughal structures ever built. From the intricate carvings on marble to the verses carved on the wall, the Taj is a treat to the eyes.
