Located in the district of Tumkur in Karnataka, is a mountain peak which is said to be in the shape of a Shivalingam and thereby bears the name Shivagange. This destination is often referred to as the ‘Dakshina Kashi' which translates to ‘Kashi of the south' due to its auspiciousness. Also the waterbody that flows nearby is regarded as an offshoot of the ‘Holy Ganga' River.

The scenic beauty of Shivagange is of unmatched splendor and this place attracts many number of tourists throughout the year, adventure seekers and pilgrims alike. A trip to Shivagange will definitely prove to be a rejuvenating experience to the travellers.

Revering Lord Shiva

As the name suggests, the main deity worshipped at the Gangadhareshwara temple, in Shivagange is Lord Shiva. Worshippers throng this shrine to seek the blessings of the Lord and to rid themselves of their sins. Another interesting aspect of Shivagange is the presence of the Olakal Theertha, which is a rock formation over a natural spring. The visitors try to reach the water through the rock as it is considered sacred.

There is also a Nandi idol placed at the edge of a cliff which is another attraction of Shivagange. To reach the Gangadhareshwara Temple, one has to climb the hill for quite a distance, though the effort is worth it as the view from the top is just spectacular. The Patalganga is yet another attraction here.

Getting There

The best way to travel to Shivagange would be by bus or a hired Taxi taken from Bangalore. Though there are no trains available to this place, there are a number of buses available from Bangalore, both government run and private. Visitors can also travel in their cars along with family and friends. Biking enthusiasts are in for a treat if they are planning to visit Shivagange as this is an ideal route for biking from Bangalore, just about 54 km away.
