Have you ever taken a highway tour in India? How about travelling from Maharashtra to Kerala on a highway? Yes, this is an exciting road trip that could take you to places that fall on the route, also covering some of the nearby destinations that can be visited along the trip. The total length of the highway is 1296km.
This trip starts from Panvel in Maharashtra and ends in Kochi in Kerala. On the way we would pass by forts, beaches, temples and much more making the journey a thrilling experience. We would cover some of the best destinations in Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala. So fasten your seat belts. Let's go!
Let's Start from Panvel
Panvel is the starting point of our long road trip. The city is located in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Some of the tourist places that can be visited in Panvel are the Karnala Fort, Karnala Bird Sanctuary and the Gadeshwar dam.

Alibag
Travel from Panvel to Alibag to see some of the beautiful attractions here. Some places to visit here include the Alibag Beach, the Kolaba Fort and the Khanderi Fort.

Ballaleshwar (Pali)
The Ballaleshwar Ashtavinayak Temple in Pali is the next attraction that can be covered on the trip by taking a deviation through the Khopoli-Pali road.

Harihareshwar
Travelling further, you would reach Harihareshwar taking another deviation from the highway. Harihareshwar has a pleasant ambience and some tourist spots like Harihareshwar Beach, Kalbhairav Temple and Bagmandala.

Pune
Pune can be reached travelling via Kolad. Some of the attractions that could be covered in Pune include the Aga Khan Palace, Pataleshwar Cave, Shaniwar Wada and Visapur Fort. Do not forget to gorge into some traditional Maharashtrian fare like pao bhaji and vada pao here.

Raigarh Fort
The next place you could visit on the route would be the Raigarh Fort. This is one of the popular tourist attractions of Maharashtra. The fort is 2700ft high, which can be reached using a ropeway.

Mahabaleshwar
Mahabaleshwar is the next destination to be covered on this route. Arthur's Seat, Elephant's Head Point and Pratapgarh Fort are some of the attractions in Mahabaleshwar.

Ganpatipule
From Mahabaleshwar, Ganpatipule is located around 214 km which would take around 3 and a half hour's time to reach. The Swayambhu Ganpati Temple, Ganpatipule Beach and Malgund are some of the places to visit in the place.
Kolhapur
Taking a deviation from the highway, you could reach Kolhapur which is around 83 km from NH 17. The Mahalakshmi Temple and Jyotiba Temple are famous here. The place is ideal for shopping traditional Kolhapuri chappals.

Dudhsagar Falls in Goa
Dudhsagar Falls in Goa is a must-visit attraction as you travel by this route. A slight deviation from NH 17 would take you to Dudhsagar Falls which is a spectacular sight.
Gokarna
Gokarna is a pilgrimage centre that could be visited on the highway trip on NH 17. Mahabaleshwar Temple, Bhadrakali Temple, Idagunji and Gokarna Beach are some of the attractions to be visited here.

Maravanthe
Maravanthe is a beautiful beach destination that you could visit on your road trip. Apart from the Maravanthe beach, the other attractions to visit here are Kundapur, Anegudde Vinayaka Temple and Kodi Beach.

Udupi
Udupi is located around 55km from Maravanthe. Udupi is famous for the Krishna Temple, Gunjarugiri Durgadevi Temple and other temples. The other attractions include the Kaup Beach, Pajaka and Saligrama.

Malpe Beach
The Malpe Beach is located around 6.5 km from Udupi. Apart from the beach, the places of interest include Daria Bahadurgad Fort, St. Mary's Island and Vadabhandeshwara Temple.

Kasargode
From Karnataka, we now head to Kerala via Kasargode. Kasargode is around 110 km from Malpe Beach and takes around 2 hours by road. Ananthapura Lake Temple is one of the major attractions here. The other attractions include Malik Deenar Mosque, Govinda Pai Memmorial and Madiyan Kulam Temple.

Bekal Fort
Bekal Fort, located around 16.5 km from Kasargode, is worth exploring on your highway road trip by NH 17. The Bekal Beach, Chandragiri Fort and the Nithyanandashram Caves are some of the other attractions of Bekal.

Muzhappilangad Beach
The Muzhappilangad Beach is the only drive-in Beach in Kerala. Located in Kannur district, Muzhappiland Beach is around 93 km from Bekal.

Kozhikode
Kozhikode is located around 78 km from Muzhappilangad Beach, taking around two hours by road. Apart from these tourist attractions, Kozhikode is also known for their biriyani and halwa.
Guruvayur
Guruvayur is located around 102 km from Kozhikode. The town is famous for the Krishna Temple and other attractions.
Munnar
Munnar is located around 184 km from Guruvayur. Being one of the top tourist destination in India, the sightseeing options in Munnar are plenty. Here are some of the unique attractions in Munnar.
Thekkady
Thekkady (Kumily) is located around 105 km from Munnar. Thekkady is known for Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and for adventure activities like trekking, rock climbing and bamboo rafting.
Kochi
