Tsomgo is also known as Changu and is located in the heart of misty hills, which are covered in lush greenery. These hills are not only abode to lush greenery but also to the most welcoming people.

The Tsomgo Lake makes its appearance while one is headed towards the Nathu La Pass in the Indo-China border; it is not cakewalk for one to reach this beauty due to the unruly terrain.

A lesser-known lake in the popular hill station of Kodaikanal is Berijam and to reach the place one needs to obtain a special permission from forest department.

Berijam is a man-made lake which was created in the year 1867 after the then collector of Madurai donated part of his personal funds to the construction of a dam. With the passage of time the dam and the lake were enlarged and a pipeline was laid to supply drinking water to the nearby regions.

With a shoreline spanning about 15.5 km, Dal Lake is encompassed by a boulevard which is lined with Mughal gardens, parks and shikkars or houseboats. The lake is named as Srinagar's jewel and for sure stays true to its name.

The lake covers a total area of 18 sq km and is part of a natural wetland, which covers a total area of 21 sq km, which also includes the well-known floating gardens.

Pichola is yet another artificial freshwater lake which was created in the year 1362 AD and gets its name from the village of Picholi.

The lake is also home to four islands with structures built in them, and serving four different purposes on one of these islands is the famed lake palace of Udaipur, which now has been converted into a heritage property.

The lake gets its name from its crescent shape and is situated at altitude of 14, 100 ft above sea level. Chandratal is a a very popular destination amongst trekking and camping enthusiasts and is located in the district of Spiti in Himachal Pradesh.

The lake is situated on the Samudra Tapu plateau which overlooks the Chandra river and is one amongst the high-altitude wetlands of the country.

Pangong Tso is an endorheic lake in Himalayas which extends itself to the neighbouring country of China as well. Due to the brackish water of the lake, it has very low micro-vegetation with no aquatic species in it; however, visitors have spotted ducks and gulls over and on the lake's surface.

The lake had an outlet to the Shyok river, which was a tributary of the Indus river, but got closed due to natural causes. An Inner Line Permit is required for one to visit this lake which gained fame after a number of Hindi movies choose this location for shooting.

Sattal is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes which is located close to the town of Bhimtal. Surrounded by oak and pine trees, Sattal is one amongst the untouched freshwater lakes in the country.

The lake is also the abode of a large number of migratory birds and to different varieties of fish and is favourite destination amongst campers who set-up camps along with the help of local people.
