Since India is blessed with all kinds of landscapes, a drive by road can begin from the hullabaloo of a city and gradually change to the view of mountains, beaches, plains or more. Here are the 5 best routes in India, that can be experienced in its entire essence only by travelling through either a bus, car or bike ride.
Bangalore – Ooty
The busy life of Bangalore makes one want a quick, unwinding road trip. Bangalore to Ooty is a brilliant trip to take since the changing vistas of the crowded Bangalore roads to the depths of nature in Ooty is a beautiful experience.
The view changes from narrow Bangalore roads to broader highways, which is later flanked by thickets of forests. You will cross beautiful places, like Mysore, Nanjangud, Bandipur and Mudumalai, on your way.
It is a 6-hour journey which covers about 280 km of distance.

Chennai – Pondicherry
A drive through the East Coast Road, that connects Chennai to Pondicherry with such ease, is the most satisfying experience for a person looking for a short trip. The 155 km ride will roughly take 3-4 hours to complete and is accompanied by the breathtaking view of the Bay of Bengal on one side.
For an elaborate trip, you can stop at Olive Island, Muttukadu, Mahabalipuram, etc. on your way. At Pondicherry, places that must be visited include Paradise Beach, Promenade Beach, French colony, to name a few.

Mumbai – Goa
Inspired by the blockbuster hit Bollywood movie Dil Chahta Hai, a road trip to Goa from Mumbai is one of the most popular routes taken by those who crave for a road trip. This trip is certainly one that is more about the journey than the final destination itself.
The changing vistas of the mountains of the Western Ghats to the tranquil beaches are simply spectacular. With 590 km to cover, this road trip is quite long but certainly worth it since most part of the journey lies on the smooth Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Delhi – Agra
Being one of the most popular getaways from Delhi, Agra must be visited through a road trip. You must see the beautifully sprawling plains of Uttar Pradesh, dotted with numerous Punjabi dhabas that serve the most authentic Punjabi food one could ask for, to finally reaching Agra.
Foreigners as well as Indian nationals frequently plan this road trip in order to see the world's wonder, Taj Mahal. Plan on visiting the monument under the light of the full moon to see it from a completely different perspective.

Kolkata – Darjeeling
Most of the journey from Kolkata to Darjeeling stays on the National Highway 34. City folks of Kolkata head to Darjeeling for a quick escape into the beauty of nature, especially since it is just a day's journey away.
You can make pit stops at places, like Burdwan, Farakka and Siliguri, on the way, and munch on West Bengal's delicious jhalmuri while you're at it. If the journey is too long to travel at a stretch, you can break it into two by stopping at Siliguri for a day.
