Situated on the banks of the Chambal river, the city of Kota is considered as the third largest city in the state of Rajasthan. The city is well known for its unique style in which the paintings, palaces, places of worship, etc. are seen. The place is also pretty famous for its gold jewellery, silk sarees and the much-renowned Kota stones.

The place's history dates back to the 12th century when it was captured by Rao Deva and was declared as an independent state in the year 1631. Kota has a very troubled history as the place was raided by various rulers from various dynasties, such as the Mughals, Marathas, etc. It is well known for its rich architecture which showcases the grandeur of a bygone era in its palaces, temples, etc. Have a look at some of the best places to visit when here.

Also known as the City Palace, the walls and ceilings of Garh Palace are decked up with beautiful wall paintings and mirrors along with hanging lights and floral decorations. The structure also showcases marble floors, walls and a very grand entrance tower, which makes it a very important landmark of the city. The structure is a perfect example of the confluence of Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture, with more influences of the Rajputana style of architecture, which attracts a large number of visitors to the place.

The Kota Barrage is one of the most important reservoirs in the state of Rajasthan which is constructed over the Chambal river. Spread across an area of approximately 27, 332 sq km, the place offers a breathtaking view of water flowing through its gates, which makes it one of the most popular stops to be visited in the city. Close by the barrage is the Kansua Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which houses a very rare four-faced Shivalingam.

Situated on the banks of the Chambal river, the garden is one of the most attractive spots in the city which is well known its boat ride through the river and is also part of the National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary. The sanctuary was formed in the year 1983 with the main ideology of protecting the rapidly depleting population of the ghariyals and marsh crocodiles. Apart from which the place is well known for its large population of birds and scenic beauty.

Built up on the banks of the Kishore Sagar Lake, as the name suggests, the park houses replicas of the seven wonders of the world, such as the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Christ Redeemer Statue of Brazil, etc. The park was built at a mind-blowing cost of 20 crores by the Urban Development Department. The place is a major draw amongst tourists, especially during the evenings, when the entire place is lit up.

The Garadia Mahadev Temple is one of the most well-known shrines in the city which is located close to the Chambal river, which attracts a large number of visitors. The place provides one of the most beautiful views that one would come across-the Chambal river along with its gorge and the majestic plains. To reach the shrine, one has to descend a couple of steps to reach the sanctum and offer prayers to Lord Shiva. The place is located away from the regular tourist destinations of the city and hence, showcases a peaceful environment along with beautiful surroundings.
