Woodville Palace, Shimla

Woodville Palace is a timeless building situated in the east of Shimla town. According to record, the first occupant of this building was General Sir William Rose Mansfield, the commander-in-chief of the British Army. The ownership of the place passed through several parties, before being transferred to the Alliance Bank in 1919. In the year 1926, King Bhagvat Singh of Gujarat bought this building and gifted it to his daughter, Rani Leila Ba of Jubbal, in 1930. The old building was destroyed by the king of Jubbal State in 1938, and a new grand structure was built in its place as the palace of the royal family. Prince Uday Singh converted a part of the building to a heritage hotel in 1977.
