Overview
Description

Romancing in a hill station has its own appeal. Romancing with the winding roads, the cascading and rolling clouds is what briefly defines a visit to Shillong. If you want to enjoy the best time here, a stay at the Royal Heritage – Tripura Castle is a must. The Tripura Castle (as it is locally called) is an opulent, majestic and truly a king’s palace that has been converted into a hotel.

It is a living reminder of the princely romance of Maharaja Bir Bikram of Tripura with Shillong. Maharaja Bir Bikram had come here from Tripura in his teens and fell in love with the place. He stayed back and later built and settled at the Tripura Castle.

Tripura Castle exteriors are as opulent as its interior. A serpentine rode adorned with pine trees on both sides, bamboo groves and cherry blossoms leads to the majestic Heritage hotel – the first of its kind in North East India. After the grand entrance, you will be welcomed by a three-tiered garden, a marvelous collection of orchids, and a rose garden that dates back to the times of the Second World War.

On entering the heritage building, the antiques, artworks, Chinese furniture, art deco and Victorian objects d'art pose an imposing sight. You shouldn’t miss out on the paintings and photographs of the members of the Tripura dynasty (who used the Castle as their summer retreat). There is also a large private library which has many first edition books and valuable manuscripts.

Facilities

There are a plethora of services that you can enjoy while staying at the Tripura Castle. If you are on a business tour and need to organize a conference, do not forget to see the 30-seater Manikya Hall, the hotel’s very own conference hall. Apart from this, the hotel also offers activity centers such as games room, laundry and housekeeping services, taxi services, doctor on call, travel desk for helping you sight-see Shillong and a large library.

Restaurant

The in-house restaurant at the hotel serves excellent Indian, Chinese and local cuisine. The chefs at the in-house restaurant prepare every food with love and ensure that titillate the senses and forces one to come back for another help.

Lounge Bar and Coffee Shop

To spend a quiet day at the hotel premises, you can sip in a hot brewing cup of coffee at the coffee shop or even relax at the lounge bar.
