    Bagar

    Bagar is a town in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan which is famous for its painted havelis. Most of these havelis were built in the 20th century by the Marwari merchants of Shekhawati. Some of these havelis are even painted in pure gold at many places.

    The Havelis of Rungtas and Piramal Makharia are two major attractions of the town which have been converted into heritage hotels. Other popular tourist delights of Bagar are the Fatehsagar Water Tank, Dargah of Miya Saheb and White Gate.

  • 02Churu

    Churu

    Churu is located 82 km away from Shekhawati. This district of Rajasthan is famous for a number of luxurious havelis (mansions) and forts constructed in the typical Rajasthani style of architecture.

    Various images on the exterior walls of these forts and havelis depict the story of local heroes. The walls of the three havelis, namely, Kanhaiyalal Bagla Haveli, Surana Haveli and Malji Ka Kamra have paintings depicting various episodes from the life of Dhola and Maru (actors of a local tale).

    A fort built by Thakur Khushal Singh in the year 1739 is a noted attraction of the place. Some other sites worth visiting are the Nagar Shree Museum, Laxminarayan Chandgothia Haveli and Laxminarayanji Temple.

    A few historical attractions like the Aath Kambh Chhatri and Gondia Chhatri are also quite popular. Beautiful murals and paintings make the interiors of these chhatris beautiful, which treat the eyes of onlookers.

    Other attractions in the district are the Raghunathji Temple, Chandgothia Temples, Jama Masjid, Nath Ji Ka Dhora, Sethani Ka Johara and Balaji Temple.

    Dundlod

    Dundlod is a small town located in the centre of the Shekhawati region in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. The town is famous for various mansions and havelis that are present here. One of the prime attractions of the town is the Dundlod Fort, which was built by a Rawal king in the 16th century. The fort has now been transformed into a heritage hotel.

    Other prominent attractions in the town are the Jagathia and Goenka Haveli, Satyanarayan Temple, Chokhani, Diwan-i-Khas, Ladia and Saraf Haveli.

    Fatehpur

    Fatehpur is a town located midway Jaipur and Bikaner on the National Highway 11 in Sikar district of Rajasthan. The town of Fatehpur was established by Fateh Khan, a Kayamkhani Nawab in the mid-15th century. Like other places of the region, Fatehpur, too, is known for grand and decorated havelis.

    The Goenka Haveli built in the year 1865 has several wall paintings and is considered to be the most interesting of all havelis present here. The painting of the ceiling is worth seeing and is the highlight of the haveli. There are several other historic tourist attractions in the town, which include Nand Lal Devra, Saraogi and Singhania havelis.

    Mukundgarh

    Mukundgarh is an 18th century town that was founded by Raja Mukund Singh and is presently located in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. Various havelis located here are known for their divan khanas and fresco paintings. Among various things showcased by the divan khanas of these havelis, wall hangings, family portraits and wooden furniture, which date back to 17th and 18th centuries, are most prominent. The painted family chhatris are great sights to watch.

    Several temples dedicated to Lord Krishna which include Venu Gopal Mandir and Gopi Nath Temple are also present here. The other major tourist attractions in the town are Fort William Haveli, Ghuwale Walon Ki Haveli, Ganga Bux Saraf Haveli and Raj Kumar Ganeriwala Kala Kendra.

    Nawalgarh is a town located in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan that was founded by Thakur Nawal Singh in the 18th century. He was the then ruler of Nawalgarh and Mandawa region of Shekhawati. Havelis in Nawalgarh built in the year 1836 are characterised by craftily decorated frescoes.

    One of the most famous attractions of the town is the Anandi Lal Poddar Haveli that was built in 1920. The Bala Kila Fort is another tourist attraction that is known for various paintings on its walls depicting local tales.

    Some other major places to visit in the town are the Jodhraj Patodia Haveli, Bansidhar Bhagat Haveli, Chokhani Haveli, Roop Niwas Palace, Ganga Mai temple and British Clock Tower.

    Jhunjhunu

    Jhunjhunu is a town located in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. The town is widely popular owing to a large number of beautifully painted havelis present here. The major tourist attractions here are the 18th-century Khetri Mahal, Bihariji Temple and Mertani Baori. The paintings inside the Seth Ishwardas Mohan Das Modi Haveli are amongst the best of their kind present in the Shekhawati region.

    The Tibrewala Haveli, which belongs to the 19th century, is famous for its coloured glass windows. Some other major attractions in the town are the Makbara of Nawab Samaskhan, Jorawar Garh, Khetri Mahal, Laxmi Nath Temple, Ajeet Sagar and the Makbara of Nawab Rohilla Khan.

    Alsisar And Malsisar

    Alsisar and Malsisar are two towns located in the Jhunjhunu district at the northernmost tip of Shekhawati region. These towns were established in the late and mid 18th century respectively. These are famous for the exquisite style of their frescoes and colourful paintings. Wells and reservoirs with ornamental Rajasthani architecture along with painted havelis are worth visiting in the region.

    Alsisar is located 27 km from the town of Jhunjhunu and is famous for painted forts and havelis. Some of the major tourist attractions present here include Shri Lal Bahadur Mal Ki Haveli, Tejpal Jhunjhunuwala ki Haveli, Lakha ka ki Haveli, Mahali Dutt, Khetan Haveli, Cenotaph of Thakur Chhotu Singh, Sri Lal Bahadur Mal Well and Jiwan Ram Marodia ka Talab.

    Malsisar is a small village located 32 km from the town of Jhunjhunu. Some of the popular tourist attractions of the village include Prem Giri Ji ka Math (a holy place), Banarsi Das Banka Haveli, Serh Mal Saraogi Haveli, Banka’s Well, Jokhi Ram’s well and Saraogi’s Well.

    Mandawa is a town located in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and lies in the centre of the Shekhawati region. The fort town of Mandawa is located 168 km off Jaipur in the north and is well connected to other parts of the region by a good network of roads. Mandwa is famous for its forts and havelis.

    The Mandawa Fort, also known as the Castle Mandawa, built in the 18th century, is a colossal fort that has a painted arched gateway with pictures of Lord Krishna and his cows. The fort was constructed by Thakur Nawal Singh, son of Shardul Singh, in Vikram Samvat 1812 (1755 AD).

    The fort is built with a medieval theme and is adorned with beautiful frescoes. Paintings of Lord Krishna, exquisite carvings and amazing mirror works are fundamental to the rooms of this fort. A number of antiques and paintings enhance the beauty of the durbar halls of this fort.

    The Castle Mandawa has now been converted into a heritage hotel which is managed by the royal family of Mandawa. 

    Tourists can enjoy cultural shows, themed dinners, horse safaris, camel safaris, village safaris, etc. at Mandawa.
