  • 01Ajinkyatara Fort

    The Ajinkyatara Fort – located on top of the Ajinkyatara Mountain - stands tall at an altitude of 1006 m above sea level. Placed in the district of Sangli, this fort is also known as the Fort of Sapta Rishi.The Fort was built under Raja Bhoj who belonged to the Shilar Dynasty.

    It was constructed in the memory of the Martyrs of the 1857 Independence Movement. One can see this fort from the Yateshwar Hill, which is about 5 km away. The view from atop the fort is mesmerizing, offering you a panoramic scene of the entire horizon of Satara City.

  • 02Sajjangad Fort

    Sajjangad Fort

    The Sajjangad Fort is located 9 km away from the city of Satara. Built in around the 10th Century, this is the point where Sri Samarth Ramdas Swami took a Samadhi. Sri Samarth Ramdas was the Guru of the Great Shivaji.

    The fort was earlier known as Aaswalayangad and Aaswalgad. The fort is 312 m high and spans over an area of an amazing 1525 sq. m. There are two lakes in the vicinity. The surrounding area is decorated during the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami which is celebrated with great enthusiasm here.

    The Koyna Dam is one of the largest dams in the state of Maharashtra, placed in the Sangli Dsitrict. It is built over the river of Koyna and was constructed in around 1963. The dam has a capacity of 98.78 TMC and is home to a Hydroelectric Project of 1920 MW. The dam makes for a very beautiful spot to spend an evening with your family. The nearby Nehru Garden is an ideal place to unwind.

    The Kaas Plateau and Lake are located 22 km away from the Satara district and attract all kinds of tourists. A popular tourist destination, this site is also known as the ‘Plateau of Flowers’. Lying at a dizzying altitude of 3,500 ft, the Kaas Plateau has been conferred the title of World Heritage Site for Biodiversity by the UNESCO.

    The Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary can be seen from here. More than 400 species and varieties of flora, like plants, herbs and orchids can be found here.

    The Kaas Talav (Lake) is the main source of drinking water for the city of Satara. This spot makes for a nice visit especially in the post-monsoon period.
