Port Blair – The Capital Of The Andamans


Port Blair, the capital of the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is situated on the South Andaman Island, the largest island group of the Andaman lot. What makes it so notorious is the gruesome torture techniques used by the British back then which could only be whispered among the general populace.

You might want to visit the famous marine park while in Port Blair which is essentially an assortment of marine activity; marine life and mini-tours spread over a hundred and fifty odd islands. Depending on your appetite for marine life, the tour can be expanded and condensed to last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

The Andaman Water Sports Complex located close to the cellular jail, offers some awesome afternoon watersports like parasailing, water scooters, paddle boats and kayaking. Apart from the commercialization aspect, water sports in the Andaman Islands is quite an experience given how close you are to nature.

Getting there is a breeze with flights to Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar airport plying to Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar and Chennai frequently. Furthermore, the Shipping Corporation of India operates various ferry departures to the city.

How to Reach Port Blair

    The Andaman and Nicobar Islands cannot be accessed by road, but once you're there, the Andaman Trunk Road is a great way to get around the Andaman island. It connects all the populate townships and beaches including the main Port Blair Jetty and Veer Savarkar Airport to Phoenix Bay Jetty.
