    Kirti Mandir

    Kirti Mandir is that divine place where Mahatma Gandhi took birth. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi took birth in the three-storied Blue Haveli at Porbandar, on October 2, 1869, and the site is now famous by the name Kirti Mandir.

    The place has now been converted into a repository on the life of the Mahatma and includes some interesting photographs, some rare possessions of Gandhi and a beautiful library with a gripping collection on Gandhian philosophy and practice.

    Porbandar Bird Sanctuary

    Unlike the regular sanctuaries, this one flaunts a beautiful co-existence of birds and nature. Declared a sanctuary in the year 1988, it is a water body surrounded by beautiful green trees and plants.

    Attracting avian creatures of all types from pelicans to coots, spoon bills to ducks and geese and whistle teals to jacanas, ibis and herons, the bird sanctuary is a must visit for all those who love multihued birds.

    Winters are the perfect times to visit this site for that is when the sanctuary turns all colourful with millions of migrants.

  • 04Barda Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

    This fascinating wildlife sanctuary is shared between two districts – Porbandar and Jamnagar. However, the sanctuary lies at a distance of just 15 km from Porbandar, thus being closer to the district of Porbandar than Jamnagar.

    The area which is a reserve forest was identified as a sanctuary in the year 1979 and is extremely beautiful filled with hilly tracts, flat plain lands and attractive little water streams surrounded by beautiful greenish forests and agricultural fields.

    The Porbandar Beach, popular by the name 'Chowpati' is a famous tourist attraction in the town. Reconstructed in 2003, it has good seating arrangements for visitors to sit and relax. There is also a skating rink for children. The Janmashthami fair also takes place in the premises of Chowpati every year.
