Pachmarhi is the one and only hill station of Madhya Pradesh. Pachmarhi is popularly called Satpura Ki Rani or Queen of Satpura. It is placed in the Satpura range. It is located at a height of 1110 m.

Pachmarhi - The Tribal History

Pachmarhi was the capital of the tribal dynasty of Gond Tribe. The king of Gond tribe was Bhawut Singh. In 1857 Captain James Forsyth of the British Army discovered the Pachmarhi hill station and introduced it to the world. The modern developments in Pachmarhi owe it to James Forsyth. His enthusiasm converted it into a hill station of high prestige.

As it is the highest point in central India, the British made it the centre of its army cantonment. In 2009 UNESCO declared Pachmarhi as a Biosphere Reserve.

Pachmarhi tourism has many places to offer to its visitors. Dhupgarh is the highest point in Vindya-Satpura hill range and also in Central India, which is located at Pachmarhi. Interestingly, Pachmarhi is a saucer shaped hill station. Pachmarhi is also popular for the Pachmarhi military cantonment.

Pachmarhi is famous for its ancient caves, monuments, waterfalls, natural beauty, forest and the flora and fauna. Rocky hills, thick green valley, dense forest, cascading waterfalls and the cozy weather make it an abode of Mother Nature. Pachmarhi is an apt place to enjoy the beauty of sunset.

Handi Khoh, Jata Shankar cave, Pandava Caves, Apsara Vihar, Bee Falls, Duchess Falls, etc. are some among the major attractions of Pachmarhi.

Pachmarhi has a wonderful climate throughout the year. Hence it can be visited any time, though the months from October to June are considered to be the best time. The pleasant climate of the place boosts tourism in Pachmarhi.

To reach this hill station, one has to take a flight or train to Bhopal and cover the remaining distance via road transport.

    Pachmarhi is well connected by road from theneighbouring places in Madhya Pradesh. Private buses as well as buses run by Maharashtra Road Transport Corporation ply at regular intervals from Bhopal, Pipariya or Nagpur to reach Pachmarhi. Luxury buses are also available to come to Pachmarhi. Taxis are also available from these places.

    The nearest railway station is at Pipariya which falls on Jabalpur rail line on the Howrah-Mumbai track. It is 47 km from Pachmarhi. However, Bhopal is the major railway station near to Pachmarhi. The distance between Bhopal and Pachmarhi is approximately 200 kilometre. Pachmarhi can be reached via Nagpur also.
