PM Modi Inaugurates Smriti Van Smarak at Bhuj, which was the epicenter of the disastrous high-magnitude earthquake which took the lives of thousands of people in 2001. Smriti Van celebrates the bravery shown by people during the distressing earthquake that happened in 2001 in the Kutch region of Gujarat.
A part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tweet says, "This Memorial is associated with the tragic Earthquake of 2001 in which several people lost their lives. Smriti Van is a tribute to those we lost and also a tribute to the remarkable fighting spirit of the people of Kutch".
On his two-day visit to Gujarat from 27th August to 28th August, PM Modi inaugurated the Smriti Van memorial on Sunday which is located on the outskirts of Bhuj town.
After visiting the Smriti Van memoria, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "It was a very poignant visit to Smriti Van. My mind went back to the dark days after the 2001 Earthquake, a tragedy that tested our spirit. We lost many of our sisters and brothers. Smriti Van is a humble attempt to preserve their memory and highlight Kutch's inherent courage". With this, he also requested to come to visit Smriti Van and Kutch mentioning that it would be an experience of a lifetime.
This one of its kind memorial has been spread over nearly 470 acres. There is also a museum named the State of the art Smriti Van Earthquake Museum which is separated into 7 blocks on 7 themes which go as Rebirth, Rediscover, Restore, Rebuild, Rethink, Relive and Renew, showcasing Gujarat's topography, rebuilding initiative & success stories after the earthquake, and enlightens about different kinds of tragedies and future readiness for it. With the help of a 5D simulator, visitors can relive the experience of an earthquake that happened in 2001 and know the ground reality.
