Here is a piece of good news announced by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) that senior citizens above the age of 75 can travel for free on their buses which are state-run buses or ST buses.
CM, Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis announced this new facility during a cabinet meeting that was held after Independence Day as a portion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. As per the reports, Shekhar Channe said that citizens eligible for the free travel and who fall under the scheme will get a refund if they had booked their tickets before 26th August 2022.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde tweeted about the scheme on 25th August 2022, "Certificates of free travel scheme were distributed today to the senior citizens of the state to travel in ST buses who are above 75 years of age. On the occasion of 75th Independence day, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav this has been announced and through which lakhs of senior citizens of the state will be benefited".
In addition to this, citizens of the state between the age of 65 and 75 years will get a 50 % discount on ticket fares on select types of bus services operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
How To Avail Service:
Being a senior citizen above 75 years of age, those wishing to take advantage of this new initiative can avail of this free travel bus service by showing identity proof like Aadhaar Card, driving license, PAN card, Voter's Card, etc. Please note that free travel service is not applicable for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation's city buses and will be for travel only within the state limits.
