Kedarnath Yatra Suspended Amid Heavy Rains

The temperature in Kedarnath dropped to 7 degrees due to heavy rain on Monday, so the Rudraprayag district administration suspended the Kedarnath yatra.

So many pilgrims are at a halt at various places between Gaurikund and Kedarnath.
The Rudraprayag district magistrate told that the people who are done worshipping at the Lord Shiva's temple in Kedarnath by Monday morning need to be at a halt before proceeding towards their return journey. The district magistrate also expressed hope to bring all the stranded tourists and pilgrims to their respective states. He ensured that no devotee will be able to get down the Kedarnath valley on foot more than the permitted age of 75 years.

Similarly, the people proceeding to Kedarnath from its base camp Gaurikund were stopped from undertaking the onward journey to lord shiva's temple. The tourists who had already made reservations at hotels near Kedarnath and were to go there were not allowed. Once the weather improves, they will be allowed to leave and return.

Authorities have appealed to all the devotees to be in one place until the weather conditions improve to avoid any similarity to what happened in 2013, The Kedarnath Disaster caused flooding from torrential rains in Uttarakhand, India, which caused devastation in the upper reaches of the Mandakini River valley and Kedarnath Valley. According to official reports, about 1,000-4,000 people were killed by the flood, torrential rain, and landslides that swept through northern India and Nepal on 16 June 2013.
