Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates Bundelkhand Expressway In Uttar Pradesh

On February 29, 2020, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH), the Government of India announced that it was planning a new Highway to connect Chitrakoot with the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. And 28 months later the 296-Km-Long Bundelkhand Expressway is ready to cruise on and it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kaitheri village, Orai tehsil, Jalaun district on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

The 298-kilometre route will help improve connectivity across the state and promote the travel of the people of the two places, spurring the economic development of these places and multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh.

"A significant endeavour towards this was the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of Bundelkhand Expressway by the Prime Minister on February 29, 2020. The work on the Expressway has been completed within 28 months and it will now be inaugurated by the Prime Minister," the PMO statement was cited by ANI in its report.

Although the cost of construction work was not disclosed during the announcement, it is said to have cost the Indian government Rs 14,850 Cr to build and complete this significant 296-Km-Long Bundelkhand Expressway in 28 months.

EXpressway

The Expressway starts from NH-35 at Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district to Kudrail in Etawah district, where it connects with the Agra-Lucknow expressway. Banda, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya, and Etawah are among the neighbouring districts it runs through.

Besides improving regional connections, the Bundelkhand Expressway would also spur economic growth, ushering in the creation of tens and thousands of employment for locals. According to the PMO, work on the construction of an industrial corridor in the Banda and Jalaun districts, adjacent to the Expressway, has already begun.

The road transport ministry has completed 1,41,190 kilometres of national highways as of March 31, 2022, out of the set target of 2 lakh km for 2024-25, the commerce and industry ministry said
