  • 01Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary

    Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, home to an array of flora and fauna, is a destination that must be visited while on a trip to Muthathi. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary on 14th January 1987. Sprawled over an area of approximately 102 sq km, the wildlife sanctuary is bounded by the river Cauvery, on its eastern and northern sides and the state of Tamil Nadu on the eastern and north-eastern sides.

    The vegetation here consists of deciduous, riverine and scrub forests. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward towards sighting a variety of animals like the spotted deer, wild boar, tiger, leopard, elephant, barking deer, sambar, the Malabar giant squirrel, the four-horned antelope and grizzled giant squirrel, to mention a few.

    The wildlife sanctuary is also inhabited by a number of different bird species, including the white-browed bulbul, pigmy woodpecker, Sirkeer cuckoo and the green-billed malkoha. Reptiles like turtles, banded krait, marsh crocodiles, cobra, as well as the Russell's viper can be spotted at this wildlife sanctuary.

    The Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for the endangered Mahseer fish which thrive in its rivers. The ideal time to visit the Cauvery National Park is between the months of November and March. Visitors can hike up the slopes of the wildlife sanctuary and can also choose to raft down the rapidly flowing Cauvery River. Angling is another sport visitors can participate in while exploring the sanctuary.
