Margao is a township in south Goa which is around a kilometre inland but enjoys proximity to many beaches in south Goa. This is primarily the reason why tourists prefer visiting and putting up at Margao.
Apart from housing a lot of famous churches and temples, Margao is a place of interest for Muslims as well. Mosques like the Shia Imam Ismaili Khoja Jamatkhana and Aquem are frequently visited by Muslim travellers from all over.
Margao is at a stone's throw from the long beachhead housing Benaulim, Colva, Varca, Betul and Majorda beaches. All these beaches can be visited in a single day on foot, and shopping in and around the place is amazing! The shacks offer some authentic Goan cuisine and being south Goa, the pace is just right.
Ample accommodation can be found in and around Margao, and some premier 5 star properties like the Taj, Leela, Hyatt and Holiday Inn are just about a mile away.
Looking for some contemporary shopping? Head to the Osia Shopping mall at Margao. If you’re up for a short ride, ride down to a place called Fisherman’s Wharf, close to Betul beach; this is by far the place with the most fresh and authentic seafood Goa has to offer.
Margao can be accessed via Dabolim Airport; it’s very close to it and getting yourself a cab is easy and cheap! Furthermore, Vasco Da Gama, Dabolim and Margao railway stations are the best to get to this township, Margaon station being within town limits and the most convenient. One can also drive down from neighbouring localities like Vasco Da Gama and the capital Panjim.
