Ramakrishna Math or Sevashrama in Lucknow is a branch of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur. It has two main institutions here. The first institution is a multi-specialty hospital called Vivekananda Polyclinic. Besides providing medical facilities at the campus, it also carries out health programs in the surrounding villages. The polyclinic was inaugurated by Swami Vireshwarananda, the President of the Math and Mission in June 1970.
A 14-foot high bronze idol of Swami Vivekananda crafted by the famous sculptor, Devi Prasad Rai Chaudhury installed at the gate of the polyclinic inspires both the public and the medical staff. The other institution, more significant from the tourist point of view, is the temple of Sri Ramakrishna situated at Ramakrishna Marg, Niralagar.
The visitors are mesmerized by the grandeur and magnificence of the temple even as it comes within their view as they move towards it. The Garbh Griha - sanctum sanctorum has nine domes and the main dome is 90 ft high. It hosts the idols of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sri Ma Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda.
The temple also has the idols of the mythological figures such as lotus, trishul, drum, conch shell, swan and thunderbolt. They are painted with red cement. This shrine, inaugurated in February 1987, is located close to the old temple. Built with marble and red sandstone, the temple incorporates several architectural styles, particularly of Jains, Pallavas, Chanellas, Chalukyas and Mughals.
