    The small town of Kukanoor (also known as Kuknur, Kukkanur and Kuknoor), is home to many buildings from the medieval age, which are in ruins now. Kukanoor is also known for the presence of many ancient temples. Famous temples in Kukanur include Navalinga Temple, Kalleshwara Temple, Mallikarjuna Temple and Mahamaya Temple. The Navalinga Temple is famous for inscriptions and sculpture dating back to 9th century. As the name conveys, this temple has nine Shivalings. You can find the mention of another famous temple, Mahamaya Temple in Kukanur in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

    Kukanoor is about 14 km away from Koppal town and is in the Yelburga Taluk of the Koppal district. Kushtagi and Gangavathi are the nearest towns to Kukanoor other than Yelburga and Koppal. These cities are well connected to Kukanoor by road and bus services are quite frequent.

    Hiring taxis and autorickshaws aren't wallet-friendly but you can get to Kukanoor faster if you travel by them. Bannikoppa station is the nearest railway station, about 24 km from the town.

  • 02Koppal Fort

    Koppal is a town situated on the left bank of Hirehalla river. The historic Koppal Fort with a base of 400 m from plains is the most significant attraction of Koppal district. It is believed that Tipu Sultan captured the Koppal Fort way back in 1786 AD from the Marathas and reconstructed the fort with the help of engineers from France. The strong construction of the fort was appreciated by British Forces too, when they along with Nizam acquired the same in 1790.

    People can easily reach Koppal by road and rail. Koppal is situated on Guntakal and Hubli railway line. Trains are available from almost all nearest places like Bengaluru, Vijayawada and Belgaum.     Itagi is a small town in the Yelburga Taluk and is near Kuknur. It is famous for the Mahadeva Temple, built in the Chalukya style of architecture. As per the common belief, the theertha of the Mahadeva Temple is considered divine. Kannada inscriptions in the temple speak of the reign of the Chalukya kings. The Mahadeva Temple has 13 shrines with lingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was constructed in 1112 AD by the Chalukyas.

    Itagi is well connected by rail and road to the nearby places of both Lakkundi and Kuknur. You can get down at Bannikoppa railway station near Kuknur and then avail bus services from there to reach Itagi. The bus services from Kuknur to Itagi are quite frequent. However, it takes less time to reach Itagi if you travel from Lakkundi, which is about 20 km away. It takes less than an hour to reach Itagi from Lakkundi.

  • 07Huligemma Temple

    Munirabad is known for places with mythological importance. Munirabad Dam, constructed across the Tungabhadra river, is a popular destination here and so are Rishyamookh Hill, Bali Kila and Pampa Sarovar. The other place worth visiting in Munirabad is Huligemma temple. Goddess Huligemma is the deity worshipped here.     Pura

    Someshwara Temple is one amongst the most famous Lord Shiva temples in Karnataka. It is in Pura, a small village in Kushtagi Taluk of Koppal district. The small but beautiful village of Pura is also known by the name of Sagaddepura.
