Kannur / 2023 Weather

Except for the months of heavy rains and severe heat, Kannur can be visited any time of the year. The best time to visit the region is from September (soon after the monsoons) till the last quarter of February (before the summer heat begins). This is the season of many temple festivals and celebrations and is ideal for visiting beaches as well.

Summer

The summers in Kannur are characterized by intense heat and extreme humidity. The month of March marks the beginning of summer which is prolonged for a full stretch of three months. The temperature during this season goes as high as 38°C making it impossible to explore the town on feet.

Monsoon

Like the other coastal towns of Kerala, Kannur receives generous rainfall during the months of Monsoon. From June to September Kannur enjoys showers from southwest monsoons and the months of October and November get a fair amount of rainfall owing to northeast monsoons. The months of heavy rain (June and July) are not recommended for sightseeing.

Winter

Winter is the best season in Kannur and is ideal for sightseeing as well as outdoor activities. The climate is pleasant and refreshing throughout the winter season which starts in the month of December and ends in late February. December is the coolest month as temperatures might drop to a minimum of 16°C.
