Islamnagar Fort is the most famous attraction that Islamnagar tourism has to offer to its visitors. The imposing fort has a history that is inherently related to Islamnagar. It was erected by the Afghan commander Dost Mohammad Khan in 1715.

However in the year 1723, when Nizam-ul-Mulk laid siege to Islamnagar, Dost Mohammed Khan was forced to handover the fort to the powerful Nizam after a brief period of resistance. The Nizam forced Dost Mohammed to accept a treaty and become a fort commander in his own fort.

Later, the Scindias occupied the possession of the Islamnagar Fort from 1806 to 1817. Finally, the fort was reinstated to Bhopal. The fort was built with amazing architectural splendour and expertise. In the present day, one can witness the grand remains of the Islamnagar Fort leaving a trail on the green farmlands of the village and talking about its glorious past.

Rani Mahal or “Queen Palace” comprises of two storeys. As the name implies, this palace was specifically built as a space for female residence by Dost Mohammad Khan in 1720. It was to provide shelter to his queens. The beautiful structure of the palace houses balconies and centrally located open air spaces.

The elaborately designed umbrellas situated on the roof stand testimony to the grand style of architecture of those days. The palace provides a feel of comfort. The rooms, though not huge in dimension, do not fail to impress with their simple style.

The palace serves as a canvas depicting the beauty of the Mughal, Rajput and Malwa style of architecture. The rectangular garden adds to its wonderful look. The palace faces an open courtyard. But it is the view that is obtained by standing on the balconies of the palace that is the real highlight of the structure.

Chaman Mahal or the “Garden Palace” is an appropriate name for the marvellous palace built in 1715 by Dost Mohammad Khan, the Afghan commander who ruled Islamnagar for a very short time. The sandstone palace is a spectacular sight to behold. The palace has a Sheesh Mahal comprising of twelve doors that stands with pride at the entrance.

The main attraction of the palace is a brilliant garden situated in the middle of the palace, having beautiful fountains for company. The palace is an example of a rich blend of Mughal and Malwa style of architecture. The columns and arches are decorated with motifs of intricately designed flowers.

Tourists coming to Islamnagar should make sure to visit the palace once in order to witness a grand architectural beauty. Though the palace lacks some of the extravagant features of it’s hey days, like the fragrant water flowing out of the fountains, it is still worth a site worth visiting.
