Union home minister Amit Shah today virtually inaugurated the 'Statue of Peace' of Swamy Ramanujacharya in Srinagar, located in a temple in the Sonwar region, which is 4 feet tall. This grand opening happened via video conferencing by Amit Shah.
Home Minister Amit Shah on this occasion, said "Sri Ramanuja, the proponent of Vishishtadvaita was an epic personality who always longed for the creation of an equitable society and the 'Statue of Peace' of Swamy Ramanujacharya will bring peace and blessings in Kashmir and will take people of Kashmir towards development and peace. One more statue of Swamy Ramanujacharya will be inaugurated in Gujarat next year he added.
There is also one more existing statue of Equality of Swamy Ramanujacharya in Ranga Reddy district,36 km from Hyderabad. It is considered the world's second-tallest sitting statue with a height of 216 ft, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi this year.
Who was Swami Ramanujacharya?
Swami Ramanujacharya, commonly known as Ramanuja, was born in 1017 in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. He is one of the most influential Tamil-Hindu theologians, philosophers, and saints in Hinduism.
He is considered to be one of the most influential thinkers in India's history. It was due to his efforts that there was a revival in Hinduism after centuries of decline under Muslim rulers. He is widely regarded as the greatest among the six orthodox gurus of the Vishishtadvaita school of thought (Vaishnavism), which considers him an avatar (incarnation) of Vishnu.
Swami Ramanujacharya was a Brahmin saint and the chief proponent of the Bhakti movement in India. He traveled across India, advocating equality and social justice. He opened the doors of temples to everyone, no matter what caste and culture they belonged to.
