Mukteshwara Temple was built during the early stages of Veerashaivism which was founded by Basavanna. Here Lord Shiva is worshipped as Mukteshwara and it is one of the important places of worship for the Lingayat community. Mukteshwara Temple depicts a grandeur and passion for art.     Siddheshwara Temple

    Siddhesvara Temple is one of the historical remains of Haveri. The elegant soapstone structure belongs to the Chalukyan style of architecture. The temple houses many sculptures which show the artistic talent that existed in the region. In fact, the different kinds of carvings make it difficult to identify whether the shrine followed Shaivite or Vaishnavite culture. However, now the presiding deity is Lord Shiva.     It is not wrong to say that Bankapura is a unique attraction in Haveri district. Bankapura was in fact a thriving town which came under the rule of many kingdoms like Chalukyas, Kadambas, Rashtrakutas and so on. Today, Bankapur Fort and Nagareshwara Temple are the only major attractions. Surprisingly, the Bankapura Fort area has turned into peacock reserve. Yes, it is one among the two peacock sanctuaries in Karnataka. Bankapura is around 21 km from the town of Haveri.     The historic town of Hangal was the stronghold of Kadambas. Later, the Chalukyas took over this ancient town. Tarakeshwara Temple, Veerabhadra Temple, Jain Temple and Billeshwara Temple are the four major attractions in Hangal.     Kaginele

    Kaginele is known as the birthplace of Kannada saint-poet Kanaka Dasa. Kaginele is located in Byadagi Taluk of Haveri district. Kanaka Dasa was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and all of his poems end with the ankitha name (pen name) Kaginele Adi Keshava. The village is known for Keshava (Krishna) Temple which served as an important place during the time of Kanaka Dasa. Today, Kaginele also has Kanaka Guru Peetha which is followed by Kuruba Gowda (Halumatha) community. There are other temples like Someshwara Temple, Sangameshwara Temple, Lakshmi Temple, Narasimha Temple and Kalahasteshwara Temple. Hence, Kaginele is one of the important places in Haveri district.

    Akki Alur

    Akki Alur is a small village which became popular for a unique reason. Some years ago, a farmer found a pot of gold coins while ploughing the field. Interestingly, these were not Indian coins but belonged to the Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire). These mints were recovered and a research revealed that the coins were made in Constantinople (modern day Istanbul). Though not much information is available about the history behind these coins, it became the one of the only places in India where Byzantine coins are found.
