Declared as a Bird Sanctuary in 1972 by the government, the Sultanpur Sanctuary is a protected area which boasts of being a home to about 250 species of birds, both resident and migratory birds.

    The best time to visit Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is in winter, as a large number of birds from countries like Siberia, Europe and Afghanistan migrate to this place. Apart from bird-watching, this Sanctuary is also a popular picnic-spot to the tourists and houses a library, watch towers, a children’s park, an education centre, and so on.

    Some of the resident birds found at the Sultanpur Sanctuary are Common Hoopoe, Paddyfield Pipit, Purple sunbird, Indian roller, White ibis, Common spoonbill, Laughing Dove and more. The migratory birds that are seen here include Siberian Crane, Greater Flamingo, Wood sandpiper, Indian Golden Oriole, Comb Duck, Yellow Wagtail and more.
